The Double Paradigm of Power
2010
As everybody knows, power is a ugly thing, escaping an immediate catch that is aimed to represent it in a univocal way. In the western culture, its conformation is investigated by the classic metaphysical question – what is power? – so inexorably linking it to its essence, that yet defines the perimeter of truth in connection with its existence: in fact that question is possible only for what it is, not for what it is not (i.e. nihilism); things as they are given, they are so in their essence, that is unalterable in time and not deniable as truth effect. If things are by essence, they are true. So and not otherwise, that’s all! The primacy of essence as a real signification of things in the…
Letture operaiste di Gramsci. Il caso Negri
2020
This article aims to analyze the relationship between Antonio Negri and the political and philosophical categories of Antonio Gramsci. It is my intention to resume, from the Sixties of the last century to nowadays, the stragegical uses of Gramsci’s thought by Negri. According to me, we can divide four periods in the theoretical framework of Negri. In the first one, Gramsci is an author incompatible with the workerist strategy of class struggle. In the second one, there is a sort of use of Gramsci against Gramsci. Pointendly, Negri tries to subtract the author of the Prison Notebooks from the prerogatives of the Pci. After the arrest of Negri in the 1979, Gramsci’s figure became more ambiguo…
CRITICA DELLA BIOPOLITICA. FORZA DEL VIVENTE E ACRAZIA ETOPOLITICA
2016
In this paper Vaccaro criticizes the notion of biopolitics in the specific link between life and death, opposing the power of living to the concept of life as a natural substance and the force of ethopolitical acratis to the ontological fixing of the politics.
Between militantism and academic research: rethinking hospitality and solidarity in the context of the EU’s political crisis
In the current context of the so-called migration crisis, it is essential to recall that the crisis per se is much more a political crisis than it is a disequilibrium in migration movements. Though Europe has seen an increase in the arrival of migrants, and especially of asylum seekers, the last year has actually been characterized by a drastic reduction of arrivals. The fortress Europe has indeed tightened its grip, by over-controlling and militarizing European borders and the Mediterranean Sea. The growing tendency of European national governments to reach out to far-right and populist movements that have as a main political line the control of immigration, makes it necessary to build cit…

I beni confiscati come nuovo spazio pubblico
2014
In the nort…
Sexual Selection Within the Female Genitalia in Lepidoptera
2015
The genitalia of male and female Lepidoptera are complex organs, composed of several structures that exhibit great diversity of shapes, sizes, and positions, suggesting that they have evolved in a relatively rapid and divergent way. In this chapter, we explore the selective pressures responsible for the evolution of genital morphology in the Lepidoptera , emphasizing the possible role of post-copulatory intersexual selection (PCIS) mechanisms (cryptic female choice and sexual conflict). Our exploration is in great extent speculative because knowledge on the functional morphology of genitalia in this group is limited. We start by describing the complexity and diversity of genitalia in Lepido…
Much more than a clasp: Evolutionary pattern of amplexus diversity in anurans
2019
ABSTRACTThe evolution and diversification of animal reproductive modes have been pivotal questions in behavioral ecology. Amphibians present the highest diversity of reproductive modes among vertebrates, involving various behavioral, physiological and morphological traits. One of such features is the amplexus, the clasp or embrace of males on females during reproduction, which is almost universal to anurans. Hypotheses about the origin amplexus are limited and have not been thoroughly tested, nor had they taken into account evolutionary relationships in most comparative studies. However, these considerations are crucial to understand the evolution of reproductive modes. Here, using an evolu…

Traumatic Redemption Chronotope as Theoretical Model to Study Serial Shakespeares

his article proposes a methodology to study Shakespearean intertexts in contemporary complex TV series. While the presence of Shakespeare’s inter-texts in contemporary complex TV seems ubiquitous, a sustained and theoretically focused academic study of the impact of Shakespeare in these works has not been produced. Reviewers and social media users’ comments have proposed readings of the series pointing at the importance of the series’ redemptive qualities. Taking Hannah Wolfe Eisner’s “Into the Middle of Things: Traumatic Redemption and the Politics of Form” as basis, I am presenting a theoretical model to study serial Shakespeares, with which I am referr…
