Platforma czasopism Uniwersytetu Opolskiego przykładem synergii w budowaniu otwartego dostępu do publikacji uczelnianych

2020

„Demokracja in Progress”. Działalność Ministerstwa Spraw Zagranicznych na rzecz wzmacniania społeczeństwa obywatelskiego w Polsce

2016

2016

The objective of the paper is to investigate selected elements of the privtisation processes in Central and Eastern Europe. This vital part of economic policy played – in the transformation phase – a key role in shaping the new socio-economic order as well as it brought about a number of important implications (valid up to the present) in many spheres of life. Shifting from the centrally planned state economy to the free-market one based on the private property took place in CEE in the „heat” of neoliberal ideology. In this critical moment one could observe a redefinition of the relations between the market and the state, shifting the gravity point towards the more liberal solutions and the…

Popular Religion in the Periphery. Church Attendance in 17th Century Eastern Finland

2015

Abstract On the fringes of post-Reformation Europe, church and state authorities faced problems in enforcing church attendance. In the Swedish kingdom, religious uniformity was seen as vital for the success of the state after the Lutheran confession had been established, and absences from church were punishable by law. The seventeenth century saw significant tightening of legislation relating to church absences and other breaches of the Sabbath, and severe punishments were introduced. Despite considerable deterrents, it was sometimes difficult to control local inhabitants: absence cases were regularly brought before the local courts in Eastern Finland, where authorities were hampered by a c…

2021

ZusammenfassungThis paper sets out to reconstruct concepts of translation between Spanish and indigenous languages that were prevalent in religious as well as notarial contexts in colonial Mexico (more specifically in a district within the state of Oaxaca) between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries. To this end, we analyse Christian doctrinal texts translated from Spanish into the Zapotec language by Dominican friars in order to propagate the Christian faith, as well as notarial texts in the form of testaments written in Zapotec by the indigenous population and translated into Spanish in order to be submitted as evidence in court. We pay particular attention to the use and translation o…

Socially Responsible Investing and Public Pension Fund Performance in Latvia

2018

Currently Latvia runs a three-pillar pension system. Despite positive dynamics of change of net assets of pension schemes, investments into pension programs are not regarded as financial products that could be popular amongst the population of Latvia. This problem is one of the key social economic issues in society and therefore its solution, which should be developed with consideration of ethical principles of investment, is socially important, which is why it should be addressed by the state. The aim of this research is to consider social and economic aspects of activities of the 2nd pillar pension fund in Latvia and to identify the attitude of Latvian residents to investments into pensio…

Existential risks of an excluded community: Le mani sulle città by Franco Rosi

2020

The essay focuses on the film Le mani sulla citta (Hands on the city, 1963) by Francesco Rosi. The film, set in Naples, explores some significant aspects of the Italian "Reconstruction" after the end of the Second World War and offers interesting insights. That period was characterized by a number of active, social and economic, recovery policies which produced job and development opportunities and triggered the development of the real estate market and urban speculation. Reconstruction meant consumption of resources (urban land and landscape), creation of new neighborhoods with proposed housing models unrelated to the population who moved to some new peripheral suburbs. This generated a so…

Ikääntyvien opiskelu ja koulutus

1994

Right up to the present, study by the elderly has focused mainly on general adult education. Consequently, marginalisation in this area has been particularly harmful to this section of the population, the people who have received the least education in our society. The motives and points of departure concerning the elderly have not yet been clearly formulated in adult education. This state of affairs is exemplified by the facts that adult education policy statements almost entirely by-pass the issue of education for the elderly and that an educational policy aimed at the elderly simply does not exist. The elderly can no longer be expected to be satisfied with mere activities for the sake of…

2019

In compliance with the resolutions made at the Yalta Conference in 1945, new borders of the post-warPolish state were demarcated and the necessity of displacing the German population from the lands incorporated into Poland was agreed upon. This led to mass-scale displacements of the population from theformer eastern lands of the Second Republic of Poland to the so-called Recovered Territories (or WesternLands), which in turn triggered the exceptionally traumatic process of people’s “growing into” the new space. The author follows this complicated and long-lasting process, using the example of the Opole Region, where two communities co-existed side by side: the displaced and the autochthonous…
