Highly selective recovery of Ni(II) in neutral and acidic media using a novel Ni(II)-ion imprinted polymer

In this work, an original ion-imprinted polymer (IIP) was synthetized for the highly selective removal of Ni(II) ions in neutral and acidic media. First a novel functional monomer (AMP-MMA) was synthetized through the amidation of 2-(aminomethyl)pyridine (AMP) with methacryloylchloride. Following Ni(II)/AMP-MMA complex formation study, the Ni(II)-IIP was produced via inverse suspension polymerization (DMSO in mineral oil) and characterized with solid state 13C CPMAS NMR, FT-IR, SEM and nitrogen adsorption/desorption experiments. Synthesis of Linear and Star-Shaped Block Copolymers of Isobutylene and Methacrylates by Combination of Living Cationic and Anionic Polymerizations

A new synthetic route for the preparation of polyisobutylene (PIB)-based linear and star-shaped block copolymers was developed by combining living carbocationic and anionic polymerizations. Living PIB chains were quantitatively endcapped with 1,1-diphenylethylene, leading to 1,1-diphenyl-1-methoxy (DPOMe) or 2,2-diphenylvinyl (DPV) termini, or both. Both the DPOMe- and DPV-terminated PIBs, and the mixtures of both endgroups were quantitatively metalated with K/Na alloy, Cs metal, or Li dispersion in THF at room temperature. In contrast to earlier conclusions it is demonstrated that kinetic analysis of incremental monomer addition (IMA) experiments for living carbocationic polymerizations with slow initiation leads only to the ratio of apparent rate constants of initiation and propagation. The apparent rate constants depend on the true (bimolecular) rate constants and on the positions of the equilibria between dormant and active states of initiator and polymer chain ends, respectively. A two-step conventional laboratory process was developed for the synthesis of mono- and difunctional linear and three-arm star tert-chlorine-telechelic polyisobutylenes (PIB) with desired molecular weights (MW) and narrow molecular weight distribution (MWD) by living carbocationic polymerization (LCCP). This polymerization method applies easy to handle operations and chemicals. Endfunctional Polymers by Functionalization of Living Cationic Chain Ends with 1,1-Diphenylethylene

Abstract A new functionalization method has been developed for the synthesis of 2,2-diphenylvinyl(DPV)-telechelic polyisobutylene (PIB). First, living carbocationic polymerization (LCCP) of isobutylene (IB) is quantitatively end-quenched with a nonpolymerizable olefin, 1,1-diphenylethylene (DPE). This process yields a mixture of diphenyl substituted vinyl and tertiary chlorine endgroups. Treatment of the resulting polymer with potassium-tert-butoxide (tBuOK) leads to the quantitative formation of DPV-telechelic PIB which is a potential macroinitiator precursor for living anionic polymerizations.

The enthalpy of transfer (ΔHt) of neutral copolymers, at a fixed and low concentration ca. 10-3 mol kg-1, from water to the aqueous surfactant solutions as a function of the surfactant concentration (fSmS) was determined at 25 °C. The surfactants studied are sodium octanoate, sodium decanoate, N-octylpyridinium chloride (OPC), and N,N-dimethyloctylamine-N-oxide (ODAO). The copolymers are (ethylene oxide)13−(propylene oxide)30−(ethylene oxide)13 (L64) and (ethylene oxide)75−(propylene oxide)30−(ethylene oxide)75 (F68). Studies of host-guest thin films of corona-poled betaine-type polar molecules by kelvin probe technique and atomic force microscopy

In this work betaine-type molecules were investigated. As a result of the asymmetry of charge distribution, molecules possess in the ground state a considerable permanent dipole moment. The decay of surface potential of poled polymer films is dependent at least on two relaxation processes. The influence of glass transition of PMMA on thermal dependence of the surface potential is shown. The transition temperature, where no changes of the surface potential appeared, is related to glass transition temperature of the host-guest system. The topography of the film surface was obtained by AFM.

Abstract A selective solid-phase extraction was employed for the improvement of the determination of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in continental water and urine samples. Ketoprofen, naproxen, diclofenac, and ibuprofen were selected as target analytes due to they are the most frequently administered and consumed NSAIDs. These compounds were extracted using molecular imprinted polymers and determined by liquid chromatography with diode array (DAD), and tandem-mass spectrometry (MS–MS) detectors.
