A constitutively active pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide (PACAP) type I receptor shows enhanced photoaffinity labeling of its highl…

2001

Abstract In the present study, we have analyzed a previously identified constitutively active pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide (PACAP) type I (PAC1) receptor with a deletion of the single amino acid residue Glu 261 (Y.-J. Cao, G. Gimpl, F. Fahrenholz, A mutation of second intracellular loop of pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide type I receptor confers constitutive receptor activation, FEBS Lett. 469 (2000)). This glutamic acid residue is highly conserved within the second intracellular loop of class II G protein-coupled receptors and may thus be of importance for many members of this receptor class. To explore the molecular characteristics of this mutant re…

Effect of artificial shading on the tannin accumulation and aromatic composition of the Grillo cultivar (Vitis vinifera L.)

2013

Abstract Background White wine quality, especially in warm climates, is affected by sunlight and heat stress. These factors increase the probability that ambering processes will occur and reduce the potential flavour compounds. This study aimed to investigate the effect of sunlight reduction on the accumulation of polyphenolic and aromatic compounds. Results This study was conducted in a commercial vineyard containing V. vinifera L. cv Grillo. Opaque polypropylene boxes (100% shading) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) net bags (50% shading) were applied at fruit set. The effect of the shaded treatments was compared to the exposed fruit treatment. The shaded treatments resulted in heavier…

Modeling of the process of moisture loss during the storage of dried apricots

2011

[EN] Moisture content is a reference parameter for dried food because the growth of most microorganisms is inhibited below certain water activity levels. In addition, it has a determining influence on the evolution of important parameters, such as color and flavor, and on other properties and deterioration reactions, such as texture, oxidation processes and nutritional value. During the storage of some dried fruits, moisture is produced due to Maillard reactions and exchanged with the surrounding environment through the packaging. The evolution of dried foods during their shelf life depends on the storage conditions. The aim of this study is to analyze the evolution of the moisture content …

Analytical Methods Used in Biotransformation Studies of Organophosphonates

2022

This work was supported by the National Science Centre, Poland (NCN) grant number 2017/27/B/NZ4/00698. Among diverse organophosphorus compounds, whose residues are determined in various ecosystems, phosphonates possess special meaning. Regarding their biological activity, capability to chelating metal cations, and stability of direct carbon to phosphorus bond under physiological conditions, phosphonic compounds found many various applications. These compounds are commonly used as pesticides, drugs, anticorrosive agents, and additives to surfactants. Common use of these substances results in an increase in their concentration in various ecosystems which may cause considerable ecological prob…

Matériaux composites soumis à de grandes vitesses de sollicitation

2006

Ultra-Low Catalyst Loading as a Concept in Economical and Sustainable Modern Chemistry: The Contribution of Ferrocenylpolyphosphane Ligands

2007

The challenge of sustainability in modern chemistry will be met with new technologies and processes provided significant progress is made in several key research areas, such as the expansion of chemistry from renewable feedstock, the design of environmentally benign chemicals and solvents, the minimization of depletive resources, and the development of high-performance catalysis. In this prospect, ligand chemistry is a pivotal science that links modern-organic,-inorganic, -organometallic, and -coordination chemistry through a vast number of valuable applications, precisely associated to catalysis. We review in this article our recent work on catalysis promoted by original ferrocenyl tetra-,…

Effects of tetraploidy on olive floral and fruit biology

2014

Floral biology and fruit development were studied in Leccino Compact (LC), a polyploid olive mutant of cultivar Leccino (L). This mutant, considered a mixoploid with both diploid and tetraploid cells, has thicker leaves and fruit size similar to the diploid cultivar. So far, no information is available on its floral biology. In this study, the ploidy level of the LC fruit epicarp, analyzed by flow cytometry, was determined to be tetraploid. Pollen size distribution confirmed that most flowers were tetraploid. Morphological and histological measurements of various floral structures and fruits were carried out on the two genotypes, and LC showed larger floral structures (i.e. rachis, flower a…

Chemical, Antioxidant and Biological Studies of Brassica incana subsp. raimondoi (Brassicaceae) Leaf Extract

2023

Brassica incana subsp. raimondoi is an endemic taxon present in a restricted area located on steep limestone cliffs at an altitude of about 500 m a.s.l. in eastern Sicily. In this research, for the first time, studies on the phytochemical profile, the antioxidant properties in cell-free and cell-based systems, the cytotoxicity on normal and cancer cells by 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-Diphenyltetrazolium Bromide (MTT) assay, and on Artemia salina Leach, were performed. The total phenolic, flavonoid, and condensed tannin contents of the leaf hydroalcoholic extract were spectrophotometrically determined. Ultra-performance liquid chromatography—tandem mass spectrometer (UPLC-MS/MS) analysi…

Inorganic Polyphosphate in Human Osteoblast-like Cells

1998

Significant amounts of inorganic polyphosphates and of polyphosphate-degrading exopolyphosphatase activity were detected in human mandibular-derived osteoblast-like cells. The amount of both soluble and insoluble long-chain polyphosphate in unstimulated osteoblast-like cells was higher than in human gingival cells, erythrocytes, peripheral blood mononuclear cells, and human blood plasma. The cellular content of polyphosphate in osteoblast-like cells strongly decreased after a combined treatment of the cells with the stimulators of osteoblast proliferation and differentiation, dexamethasone, beta-glycerophosphate, epidermal growth factor, and ascorbic acid. The amount of soluble long-chain p…
