Abstract The digestion methods for the determination of As, Cd, Cr, Pb, Sb, Sn and Zn concentrations in plastic samples using microwave-assisted digestion (MW-AD) and small-size autoclave digestion was developed. The certified polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene certified reference materials were used in order to find digestion method working properly for several sample matrices. Efficiency of the digestion methods was evaluated by analyzing the residual carbon in digests by TOC analyzer. The barrier properties of one treated paper packaging and one standard plastic film (bi-oriented polypropylene, biOPP) were assessed for ethyl hexanoate. Three methods based either on sorption (gravimetry and micro-atmosphere-derived method) or permeation kinetic determination were used in controlled conditions of aroma vapor concentration (107 Pa), temperature (25 degrees C) and relative humidity (about 0 %). Ethyl hexanoate solubility values were on the same range of magnitude for both packaging films in spite of their different nature and composition. Nanokompozyty polipropylen/poliedryczne oligomeryczne silseskwioksany (PP/POSS) przygotowano metodą mieszania w stanie stopionym polimeru. Wpływ struktury oraz ilości zastosowanych nanonapełniaczy POSS na objętości swobodne w polipropylenie określono z zastosowaniem spektroskopii czasów życia pozytonów (PALS). Ustalono zależności pomiędzy parametrami PALS: czasem życia o-Ps (τ3) i natężeniem (I3) składowej o-Ps oraz wartościami stopnia krystaliczności (Xc ) i masowego wskaźnika szybkości płynięcia (MFR) badanych materiałów. The process of polymers weathering and the methods of polymers weathering and accelerated ageing investigations were characterized. Accelerated ageing tests of polyethylene and polypropylene samples have been done in laboratory conditions. Prompt Determination of the Mechanical Properties of Industrial Polypropylene Sandwich Pipes

A simple and prompt method to determine the mechanical properties of industrial multilayer extrusion polypropylene pipes for a gravity sewer network is suggested. The engineering formulas included for calculating the permissible thickness and relative position of a foam core in the pipes are based on a linear-elastic approximation and the rule of mixtures. The applicability of the approximation was justified experimentally during investigation of the effective tensile characteristics of single- and multilayer pipes and each layer specimen by using traditional tests and finite-element calculations.
