This paper deals with Silesian macrotoponyms and microtoponyms that originate from the names of crops. These toponyms are part of the linguistic picture of the Silesian world, they show agriculture, pomiculture and hortieulture methods and document the most frequently eultivated cereal plants (Jagielnica, Owiesno, Pszów), industrial plants (Chmieliska, Konopowiec, Lniszcze) and orchard plants (Gruszka, Jabłoniec, Za Trześnie). A large part of medical lexicon is made up of eponymous terms. These have often been an object of debate and disagreement among specialists and linguists. More precisely, some claim that eponyms should be maintained, while others are inclined to substitute them with descriptive equivalent terms. The paper deals with geographical names in Silesia deriving from the names of tree species. An analysis of the names derived from appellatives, allows for a reconstruction of the categorization methods of the world, anthropological conceptualization, and a popular image of reality. Name creators choose names derived from the appellatives which are for certain reasons important and valuable for them, from the existing collection of names. The paper focuses on the relations between field names and the collective memory of a local communication community. People using various linguistic means to name specific objects in space impose an interpretation on them as well. This interpretation allows them to identify and individualize the places in social interactions, and it is kept in the collective memory of a particular community for either a longer or a shorter period of time. The linguistic analysis of the motivation for naming provides access to interpretations stored in fields names. In this case study the analysis has been carried out on the basis of the field names in Gryfów Śląski / Greiffenberg in Schlesien.

This article discusses the three Finnish city names Helsinki, Espoo, and Vantaa, and the urban discourses that surround them. The study reveals patterns of socio-spatial differentiation by examining what meanings people attach to these capital region cities and investigating how these meanings are expressed in online discourses. Using the methodological approach of corpus-assisted onomastics (CAO), this study incorporates onomastics, geographical information systems (GIS), and corpus linguistics. On flora semantics in house names found in Vidzeme: materials contained in the 1826 counting of souls in Vidzeme province The information of the counting of souls containing both house names and names of individuals is an essential aspect of historical onomastics. The first counting of souls in Vidzeme took place in 1782 and coincided with the 4 th analogous census of the provinces of Russia. Subsequently these took place at irregular intervals, the 5 th in 1795, the 6 th in 1811, the 7 th in 1816, the 8 th in 1834, the 9 th in 1850, and the final, 10 th in 1858. Tutkielmani tarkoitus on osoittaa, mitkä ovat My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic TV-sarjan visuaaliset vaikutteet ja viittaukset japanilaiseen populaarikulttuuriin. Tutkimusmenetelmänä hyödynsin intertekstuaalisuutta, kun vertasin ponisarjan visuaalista materiaalia japanilaiseen kuvastoon. Tutkimuksessani vertasin ponisarjan visuaalista kuvastoa anime- ja mangatyyleihin ja viittauksiin japanilaiseen populaarimediaan. Tutkimukseni tukena hyödynsin ponisarjan tekijöitten haastatteluja kuin myös fanien reaktioita ja huomioita sarjasta.

The objective of the article is an axiological analysis of the Silesian geographical names and the justification of its usefulness in school didactics. Educating pupils by means of proper names integrates linguistic, cultural, historical and political contents. Discussions on names and their justification teach tolerance and patriotism, highlight fundamental values such as family, work, homeland and religion, and emphasize traditions and attachment to one’s “little homeland”. Onomastic aspects can be included in the teaching of the Polish language as well as other subjects, discussed in special interest groups or facultative classes, and used in field games and in mini-biographies of one’s …
