The status of medical eponyms: advantages and disadvantages

The aim of this paper is to analyse how physicians use eponyms for naming the evolution of a scientific discovery in order to describe the different features of eponyms. In the first section a brief classification of medical eponym is given, attention is then turned to the main positive and negative aspects of these honorific names in the language of Medicine in a diachronic perspective with linguistic and ethical considerations.

Šajā bakalaura darbā aplūkots eponīmu lietojums medicīnas terminoloģijā. Darba mērķis bija izpētīt eponīmu tipus un to attīstību laika gaitā. Teorētiskā daļa veido pamatu pētījumam un sniedz informāciju par terminoloģijas attīstību vispār, it īpaši par medicīnas terminoloģiju, populārākajiem tās terminu darināšanas veidiem, kā arī par eponīmiem un to iedalījumu. Pētījums aptver simts nejauši izraudzītus terminus no trim dažādām medicīnas eponīmu vārdnīcām un to analīzi, kā arī informāciju par šo terminu izcelsmi un darināšanas metodi. The Man Behind the Eponym: Hans Biberstein and Follicular Hyperplasia Overlying Dermatofibroma

Hans Biberstein first described the basaloid follicular hyperplasia overlying dermatofibromas in 1923 and published his extensive observations on the subject in 1931. Part of Josef Jadassohn's department in Breslau, he was forced to leave German by the National Socialist regime and spent the rest of his career in New York. After a hiatus of 30 years, the dermatopathologic literature once again began addressing his seminal finding but never gave him proper credit. We suggest Biberstein's sign as an appropriate term for basaloid follicular hyperplasia overlying a dermatofibroma and as a small tribute to a pioneer dermatopathologist.

Taxonomy is a knowledge management tool that presents useful information in a well-ordered structure prevents overloading of information on its access and making the information access qualitative. This article is concerned with automatically extracting asymmetrical hierarchical relations from a large corpus and subsequent taxonomy construction by domain independent and semi-supervised system. The methodology relies on the term’s distributional semantics. The algorithm utilizes the word-embedding generated from the vector space model. In the ?barri del mercat?, in the city of Valencia and very close to its Lonja, there is a building complex which is the object of this study. The research, carried out from the simple field of toponymy, to the constructive analysis, lead us to suppose that it is the building of the Valencian trade union of cloth-shearers. It can be seen how the building now camouflaged by other subsequent interventions, corresponds to a type that cannot be related to those usually built in the city of Valencia. Tras abandonar la Mancha el Júcar entra en el País Valenciano y a partir de su confluencia con el Cabriel, discurre primero encajado entre gargantas y luego sobre el llano aluvial de la Ribera, donde se le llama Xúquer. Celem artykułu jest aksjologiczna analiza nazw geograficznych Śląska i pokazanie jej przydatności w dydaktyce szkolnej. Kształcenie i wychowywanie ucznia za pomocą nazw własnych integruje treści językowe, kulturowe, historyczne i polityczne. Rozmowa o nazwach i ich motywacjach uczy tolerancji i patriotyzmu, wskazuje podstawowe wartości, jak rodzina, praca, ojczyna i religia, zwraca uwagę na tradycje i przywiązanie do swej „małej ojczyzny”.
