Diagnosis and surgical management of colovesical fistulas due to sigmoid diverticulitis.

Diverticular disease of the colon is the most frequent cause of colovesical fistulas. In this study we evaluated the accuracy of different diagnostic procedures for the detection of colovesical fistula and the clinical outcome in a series of 49 patients who underwent surgery for colovesical fistula due to sigmoid diverticulitis.Between 1982 and 2007, 42 men and 7 women underwent surgery for colovesical fistula due to sigmoid diverticulitis. EcFLO, a FLORICAULA-like gene from Eschscholzia californica is expressed during organogenesis at the vegetative shoot apex.

FLORICAULA/ LEAFY-like genes were initially characterized as flower meristem identity genes. In a range of angiosperms, expression occurs also in vegetative shoot apices and developing leaves, and in some species with dissected leaves expression is perpetuated during organogenesis at the leaf marginal blastozone. The evolution of these expression patterns and associated functions is not well understood. Floral and Vegetative Morphogenesis in California Poppy (Eschscholzia californicaCham.)

For studies of the evolution of development in angiosperms, early‐diverging eudicot taxa are of particular interest for comparisons with established core eudicot model plants, such as Arabidopsis. Here we provide a detailed description of shoot and floral development of the basal eudicot California poppy (Eschscholzia californica). Rosette formation in the vegetative phase is accompanied by increased leaf complexity and shoot apex size. Abstract The study of several different naturally aged films of organic painting materials, is described. Materials studied include drying oils (walnut, poppy seed and linseed oil) resin-based paint varnishes (the triterpenoid dammar and the diterpenoids sandarac and turpentine) and protein-based binding media (egg yolk and casein). Infusion mass spectrometry as a fingerprint to characterize varnishes in oil pictorial artworks.

Mass spectrometry methodology to characterize drying oil used as binding media and varnishes in pictorial artworks, prior to conservation or restoration treatment, is proposed. The analytical treatment requires prior basic hydrolysis of the samples to release the fatty acids : caprylic, pelargonic, capric, sebacic, azelaic, suberic, eicosanoic, lauric, mirystic, palmitic, linolenic, linoleic, oleic and stearic, followed by separation from the matrix by a hexane/water extraction. After removing the solvent, the remaining solid is dissolved in potassium hydroxide, propanol and methanol. 1H NMR-based metabolic profiling for evaluating poppy seed rancidity and brewing

Poppy seeds are widely used in household and commercial confectionery. The aim of this study was to demonstrate the application of metabolic profiling for industrial monitoring of the molecular changes which occur during minced poppy seed rancidity and brewing processes performed on raw seeds. Both forms of poppy seeds were obtained from a confectionery company. Proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) was applied as the analytical method of choice together with multivariate statistical data analysis.
