ABSTRACTThe mouse cytomegalovirus (MCMV)m152- andm06-encoded glycoproteins gp40 and gp48, respectively, independently downregulate major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I surface expression during the course of productive MCMV infection in fibroblasts. As a result, presentation of an immediate-early protein pp89-derived nonapeptide toH-2Ld-restricted CD8+cytotoxic T cells is completely prevented in fibroblasts. Background Allergen gene transfer represents an alternative approach to specific immunotherapy with allergen extracts. CD4-mediated functional activation of human CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells

Naturally occurring CD4(+)CD25(+)FoxP3(+) regulatory T cells (CD25(+) Tregs) constitute a specialized population of T cells that is essential for the maintenance of peripheral self-tolerance. The immune regulatory function of CD25(+) Tregs depends upon their activation. We found that anti-CD4 antibodies activate the suppressive function of human CD25(+) Tregs in a dose-dependent manner. We demonstrate that CD4-activated CD25(+) Tregs suppress the proliferation of CD4(+) and CD8(+) T cells, their IL-2 and IFN-gamma production as well as the capacity of CD8(+) T cells to re-express CD25. A central role for Notch in effector CD8(+) T cell differentiation.

Activated CD8(+) T cells choose between terminal effector cell (TEC) or memory precursor cell (MPC) fates. We found that the signaling receptor Notch controls this 'choice'. Notch promoted the differentiation of immediately protective TECs and was correspondingly required for the clearance of acute infection with influenza virus. Notch activated a major portion of the TEC-specific gene-expression program and suppressed the MPC-specific program. Gene connectivity and enzyme evolution in the human metabolic network

[Background] Determining the factors involved in the likelihood of a gene being under adaptive selection is still a challenging goal in Evolutionary Biology. Here, we perform an evolutionary analysis of the human metabolic genes to explore the associations between network structure and the presence and strength of natural selection in the genes whose products are involved in metabolism. Purifying and positive selection are estimated at interspecific (among mammals) and intraspecific (among human populations) levels, and the connections between enzymatic reactions are differentiated between incoming (in-degree) and outgoing (out-degree) links.

Sensitive assay for Gram-positive bacteria was achieved via electrostatic attraction-guided plasmonic bifacial superstructure/bacteria/columnar array assembled in one step.
