Convergence angles of all-ceramic full crown preparations performed in Dubai private practice

2018

Background This study aimed to determine the degree of taper and total occlusal convergence angles (TOC) for all-ceramic bonded crown preparations carried out by private practitioners in Dubai, UAE. Material and Methods A convenience sample of all-ceramic crown preparations carried out by private dental practitioners were scanned (Carestream CS 3500) from casts and the digital images assessed. The degree of taper was measured on the axial walls of each crown preparation and the bucco-lingual and mesio-distal convergence angles subsequently calculated. Results A total of 154 dentists prepared a total of 206 crown preparations (72 anterior, 134 posterior). The mean convergence angles mesio-di…

Immediate Loading in Atrophic Jaws: Zygomatic Implants

2019

The zygomatic fixture is an extended length (35–55 mm) titanium implant, placed into the zygomatic and maxillary alveolar bone. It was designed for situations where atrophy of the posterior maxilla complicates or prevents the placing of conventional implants. The use of zygomatic implants avoids the need for bone grafting, shortens treatment times, and reduces morbidity. They have also been used in patients with maxillectomies resulting from tumors or diseases associated with atrophic conditions of the maxilla.

Orthodontics and veneers to restore the anterior guidance. A minimally invasive approach

2017

Tooth wear is defined as the progressive loss of a tooth's surface due to actions other than those which cause tooth decay or dental trauma. It is a pathological condition with an increasing prevalence among young people. The aim of this article is to describe an alternative treatment modality to rehabilitate the anterior guidance by a minimally invasive interdisciplinary ortho-restorative treatment. Two patients came to the dental clinic for restorative treatment in order to rehabilitate the worn anterior dentition. Clinical analysis showed tooth surface loss located at the incisal edges by attrition due to an inadequate anterior guidance. In both cases the occlusal vertical dimension was …

Full mouth functional and aesthetic rehabilitation of a patient affected with hypoplastic type of amelogenesis imperfecta

2020

The management of Amelogenesis imperfecta often poses a challenge for the dentists. It not only includes aesthetic and functional rehabilitation of the patient, but also requires a positive rapport building with the patient due to psychosocial issues. The treatment plan is driven by patient demands, age, cost-affordability, severity of the disease and the presenting condition. The present case report elucidates step by step management of a 20 year-old female who presented with generalized hypersensitivity, intermittent pain associated with multiple decayed posterior teeth, poor dental aesthetics and anterior deep bite. The management consisted of endodontic treatments in all teeth, crown le…

Esthetic and functional oral makeover of a 3 year old cleft palate patient suffering from early childhood caries using unconventional techniques

2011

Cleft lip and palate (CL/P) are the most common congenital craniofacial anomalies. It has been observed that these children have a higher caries experience compared their non cleft counterparts. Early childhood caries results in early pulp involvement and gross destruction of the anterior and posterior teeth. This leads to decreased masticatory efficiency, difficulty in speech, compromised esthetics, development of abnormal tongue habits and subsequent malocclusion and psychological problems. The restoration of severely decayed deciduous teeth especially anteriors presents a special challenge to dentists, particularly in uncooperative children. The following case report documents the restor…

Immediate Postextractional Implant Insertion in Posterior Maxilla. Therapeutic Attitude

2020

Abstract The immediate postextractional implant insertion is a specific way of surgical approach to implanto-prosthetic treatment. This article addresses the indications, advantages, and surgical techniques of immediate postextraction insertion, illustrated with a clinical case. Objectives: presentation of the indications, advantages and surgical procedure of immediate postextractional implant insertion. Materials and methods: The present study considered the presentation of a case in which we opted for the insertion of implants immediately postextractionally as a therapeutic attitude. Results and discussions: The advantages and disadvantages of this therapeutic technique were represented a…

Multicentric, multifocal, and recurrent osteoid osteoma of the hip: first case report.

2019

Abstract Background Osteoid osteoma is a benign bone-forming tumour, which very unfrequently has multifocal or multicentric presentation. We report the first known case of a multicentric, multifocal and recurrent osteoid osteoma treated using radiofrequency ablation. Case presentation A 39-year-old man with two-year history of left hip pain was admitted at our Institution. The pain was more intense during the night and partially relieved by salicylates. Pelvis CT demonstrated two lytic lesions (8 and 7 mm, respectively) with surrounding sclerotic reactive bone, both with a central focal area of high attenuation, located in the femoral neck and along the anterior portion of the acetabulum, r…

Static output-feedback control under information structure constraints

2013

An important challenge in the static output-feedback control context is to provide an isolated gain matrix possessing a zero-nonzero structure, mainly in problems presenting information structure constraints. Although some previous works have contributed some relevant results to this issue, a fully satisfactory solution has not yet been achieved up to now. In this note, by using a Linear Matrix Inequality approach and based on previous results given in the literature, we present an e cient methodology which permits to obtain an isolated static output-feedback gain matrix having, simultaneously, a zero-nonzero structure imposed a priori. A visual framework to create photorealistic retinal vessels for diagnosis purposes

2020

The methods developed in recent years for synthesising an ocular fundus can be been divided into two main categories. The first category of methods involves the development of an anatomical model of the eye, where artificial images are generated using appropriate parameters for modelling the vascular networks and fundus. The second type of method has been made possible by the development of deep learning techniques and improvements in the performance of hardware (especially graphics cards equipped with a large number of cores). The methodology proposed here to produce high-resolution synthetic fundus images is intended to be an alternative to the increasingly widespread use of generative ad…
