A Unified Approach to Measuring Accuracy of Error Indicators

2014

In this paper, we present a unified approach to error indication for elliptic boundary value problems. We introduce two different definitions of the accuracy (weak and strong) and show that various indicators result from one principal relation. In particular, this relation generates all the main types of error indicators, which have already gained high popularity in numerical practice. Also, we discuss some new forms of indicators that follow from a posteriori error majorants of the functional type and compare them with other indicators. Finally, we discuss another question related to accuracy of error indicators for problems with incompletely known data.

Responsiveness to change and reliability of measurement of radiographic joint space width in osteoarthritis of the knee: a systematic review

2011

Import JabRef | WosArea Orthopedics; Rheumatology; International audience; Objective: The goal of this systematic review was to report the responsiveness to change and reliability of conventional radiographic joint space width (JSW) measurement. Method: We searched the PubMed and Embase databases using the following search criteria: [osteoarthritis (OA) (MeSH)] AND (knee) AND (X-ray OR radiography OR diagnostic imaging OR radiology OR disease progression) AND (joint space OR JSW or disease progression). We assessed responsiveness by calculating the standardized response mean (SRM). We assessed reliability using intra- and inter-reader intra-class correlation (ICC) and coefficient of variati…

Direct binding of Magi2 to the USH1G protein SANS links the periciliary USH protein network to endocytosis

2012

The human Usher syndrome (USH) is the most common form of combined deaf-blindness. The encoded molecules are integrated into protein networks by scaffolds including the USH1G protein SANS (scaffold protein containing ankyrin repeats and SAM domain). Previous studies indicated SANS´ participation in vesicle transport and cargo handover at the periciliary region of photoreceptor cells. To decipher the precise cellular role of SANS, we searched for interacting partners. Therefore we adopted a yeast-2-hybrid screen of a retinal cDNA library using SANS´ C-terminus as bait. Amongst others we identified the MAGUK protein Magi2 (membrane-associated guanylate kinase inverted-2) as putative binding p…

The Usher syndrome 1G protein SANS participates in the transport of ciliary cargo in photoreceptor cells

2012

Human Usher syndrome (USH) is the most common form of combined deaf-blindness, characterized by profound congenital deafness, constant vestibular dysfunction and pre-pubertal onset of retinitis pigmentosa. The USH1G protein SANS (scaffold protein containing ankyrin repeats and SAM domain) is associated with microtubules and mediates a transport related periciliary protein network in photoreceptor cells. Here we aim to enlighten the involvement of SANS in ciliary transport of photoreceptor cells by identifying proteins associated with SANS in transport complexes. In Y2H screen of retinal cDNA library we identified the direct binding of SANS to dynactin-1 (p150Glued), a subunit of the dynacti…

iPRG 2012 Study: Detecting Modified Peptides in a Complex Mixture

2012

Nature uses a wide variety of protein post-translational modifications to regulate protein structure and activity and tandem mass spectrometry has emerged as the most powerful analytical approach to detect these moieties. However, modified peptides present special challenges for characterization. First, they are generally present at sub-stoichiometric levels, meaning that without enrichment strategies samples are dominated by unmodified peptides, so finding the modified peptides may be a challenge. Secondly, the modifications may have unique fragmentation behaviors in collision-induced dissociation (CID), which may need to be considered by database search engines. Finally, if there are mult…

Integration of onshore and offshore seismic arrays to study the seismicity of the Calabrian Region: a two steps automatic procedure for the identific…

2014

Abstract. We plan to deploy in the Taranto Gulf some Ocean Bottom broadband Seismometer with Hydrophones. Our aim is to investigate the offshore seismicity of the Sibari Gulf. The seismographic network optimization consists in the identification of the optimal sites for the installation of the offshore stations, which is a crucial factor for the success of the monitoring campaign. In this paper, we propose a two steps automatic procedure for the identification of the best stations geometry. In the first step, based on the application of a set of a priori criteria, the suitable sites to host the ocean bottom seismic stations are identified. In the second step, the network improvement is eval…

Computer-aided synthesis of complex pump and valve operations

1988

Abstract Process plant operators often have to synthesize sequences of valve and pump operations. On large plants there may be so many possible pipe routes and vessels that it is not practical to provide a priori computer support for every possible operation. The paper describes a program that could form the basis of an operator aid to synthesize appropriate operations from a knowledge of the plant layout and existing pumping operations. The paper concentrates on finding paths through the pipework and on generating a sequence of operations that establishes the path whilst simultaneously satisfying other safety and operating constraints. The paper includes two example problems which were use…
