Power losses in power-split CVTs: A fast black-box approximate method

Abstract This paper addresses the mechanical losses of planetary transmissions, with particular attention to power-split CVTs in their hybrid electric versions. It provides unified layout-independent analytical relationships, which can be used for both analysis, design and control purposes, and a simplified approach; the latter overcomes the necessity to segment the operating range of the power-split CVT in order to keep its loss model physically consistent. An example of application to a real hybrid electric PS-CVT is performed to show the simplicity, accuracy and generality of the proposed method.
Direct Torque Control of a Small Wind Turbine with a Sliding-Mode Speed Controller

In this paper. the method of direct torque control in the presence of a sliding-mode speed controller is proposed for a small wind turbine being used in water heating applications. This concept and control system design can be expanded to grid connected or off-grid applications. Through-transmission laser welding of polymers – temperature field modeling and infrared investigation

The purpose of the present study is to estimate the weldability of a polymeric material couple according to their thermal and optical properties. A first model based on Mie theory and Monte Carlo method describes the laser beam behavior in semi-transparent media and makes it possible to approximate the laser power distribution at the interface of the two materials. A second model based on finite element method permits the temperature field estimation into both parts to be welded. The results are validated by infrared thermography.

An increased level of complex offshore load handling operations is expected due to an increased amount of floating wind turbines, remote fish farms, and autonomous shipping, and in general more advanced operations to be carried out at sea. Abstract Rolling element bearings are crucial components in rotating machinery, and avoiding unexpected breakdowns using fault detection methods is an increased demand in industry today. Variable speed conditions render a challenge for vibration-based fault diagnosis due to the non-stationary impact frequency. Computed order tracking transforms the vibration signal from time domain to the shaft-angle domain, allowing order analysis with the envelope spectrum.
