Implementation of a PLC Field Analyzer on a G3 Modem Platform

2021

Nowadays, power line communications (PLC) are a widely used technology in distribution grids, both for automatic meter reading and automation applications. PLC performances (in terms of capacity, coverage, robustness, and data transmission rate) can be significantly affected by electrical network topologies, connected loads and disturbances. Thus, utilities and modem manufacturers are increasing their interest in electrical network characterization. In this framework, a software tool is proposed in this paper to measure received signal and noise levels. As case study, it is implemented on a G3 PLC transceiver, widely used for smart metering purposes. In this way, a PLC channel characterizat…

A lossless current sensing technique for flyback converters

2009

Regardless of the feedback control, almost all converters require input or output current sense for overcurrent protection. If a current mode control is implemented, high accuracy is also required. The optimal current sensing method shows the highest accuracy and the lowest power dissipation. In this paper, a lossless and accurate current sensing technique for Flyback converters is proposed. An RC network is parallel connected with the primary MOSFET and the voltage signal across the sense capacitor accurately reproduces the magnetizing current waveform. The RC technique benefits from all the advantages of the most common current sensing techniques currently applied to Flyback converters, a…

Calibration of a knock prediction model for the combustion of gasoline-LPG mixtures in spark ignition engines

2015

Gaseous fuels, such as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and natural gas (NG), thanks to their good mixing capabilities, allow complete and cleaner combustion than gasoline in spark ignition (SI) engines, resulting in lower pollutant emissions and particulate matter. In a previous work the authors showed that the simultaneous combustion of gasoline and LPG improves an SI engine efficiency with respect to pure gasoline operation with any significant power loss. The addition of LPG to the gasoline-air mixture produces an increase in knock resistance that allows running the engine at full load with overall stoichiometric mixture and better spark advance. In order to predict both performance and ef…

Quality based classification of gasoline samples by ATR-FTIR spectrometry using spectral feature selection with quadratic discriminant analysis

2013

Abstract A chemometric approach has been developed for characterization of gasoline samples regarding their quality. Attenuated total reflectance – infrared spectrometric data were processed by genetic algorithm (GA) and successive projection algorithm (SPA) feature selection techniques, being employed as an initial step prior to apply a discriminative tool. It was aimed to classify the fuel samples according to their quality passed/failed data. Chemometric predictive procedures were developed using quadratic discriminant analysis (QDA) combined with GA and SPA as a feature subset and feature selection strategy. Results showed 93.3% and 95.6% accuracy for SPA-QDA and GA-QDA models respectiv…

Risk Management Era in European Credit Institutions: Predictable Mutation in XXI Century

2014

Abstract In the market economy, globalization, liberalization and diversification of financial markets, fierce competition between the credit institutions and many of the products and services offered by them are the main factors that have exposed the banking sector to new risks, while leading to multiple challenges. For these reasons it is becoming increasingly important both permanent innovation and risk management techniques tools as well as banking performance. Only a pertinent analysis and a very good knowledge of the new tendencies in banking financial risk management can provide credit institutions in Romania efficient options on their use of management, while obtaining a higher prof…

Applying Marketing Principles in the Field of Medical Services – An Ethical Challenge?

2013

Abstract Article propose in a synthetic and punctual manner, a debate fundamentally aimed on two research directions: to what extent the perception of doctors towards the use of marketing principles in the daily activities is in contradiction with their professional ethics and how it can be modelled the doctor-patient relationship by consistently integrating the principles of marketing in medical work. Authors propose a number of conclusions and suggestions from both scientific literature review and a qualitative research conducted on doctors in Bucharest dental offices. The research suggests that, fundamentally, doctors perceive their work as performing a medical act that exceeds the bound…

Dark Leadership, Charisma and Trust

2010

Trust, charisma and bad leadership are central concepts in the managerial psychology. The aim of this paper is try to put forth shortly some ideas to research these phenomena, and connections between them, empirically. Charismatic leaders have the power and the ability to manipulate and misguide people. To prevent this misbehaving, it is important to promote processes of transformative ethical leadership. Thus, commitment, value-congruence, and communality are in the play a key positions. Charismatic leaders could be weak persons with destructive narcissist power. Good management and leadership are also central factors influencing these processes. Destructive and narcissistic leaders are, o…

Measuring the market power in the ceramic tile industry: An international comparison

2004

This paper measures the degree of competition faced by Spanish and Italian exporters of ceramic tiles in several European Union member states. The results indicate that Spanish producers have a substantial market power while Italian exporters face a high degree of competition. This finding is consistent with the significant gain (loss) in the world production and export shares that Spanish (Italian) producers experienced during the 1990s. The results are also consistent with accounting data. Furthermore, comparisons in the extent of market power across source countries and European destination markets reveal that most variation in the data is related to the source country. JEL no. Green energy products in the United Kingdom, Germany and Finland

2014

In liberalized electricity markets, suppliers are offering several kinds of voluntary green electricity products marketed as environmentally friendly. This paper focuses on the development of these voluntary markets at household level in the UK, Germany and Finland. Since there are already existing renewable energy policies regulating and encouraging the use of renewable energy, it is important to consider whether voluntary products offer real additional benefits above these policies. Problems such as double counting or re-marketing hydropower produced in existing plants are identified. According to our study, the demand varies between countries: in Germany the number of green electricity c…

The Impact of Solar Penetration on Solar and Gas Market Value: An Application to the Italian Power Market

2014

We assess the impact of solar penetration in the Italian wholesale electricity market on the market value of solar with respect to gas sources, measured as the ratio between the relative price they respectively earn and the average daily electricity price (value factor). We find that, on average, an increase of solar generation has a negative impact on the price earned by solar producers, thus causing a marginal departure from the grid parity condition. The relation between solar production and its market value is not constant over the years, while it depends on the degree of solar penetration. It is positive for very low levels of solar production while, as production increases, its margin…
