This article discusses the value of role models in the language acquisition process of international students following an English as Medium of Instruction (EMI) programme in the Netherlands. Narrative interpretations of qualitative data provide insights into the identity work involved in the use of role models and the impact that this work has on the participation of learners in the ir core learning community and other communities. This contribution investigates the reasons for the inapplication of the rules on the absolute nullity of treaties contained in the 1969 Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties. The argument put forward is that the codification of absolute nullity in treaty law was both a necessary and fanciful choice at the time. Necessary because there was already a jurisprudential practice that had declared some treaties concluded in violation of rules that would later be qualified as "ius cogens" null and void. Background: Despite the global obesity epidemic, few studies have performed cross-national comparisons of adolescents' attempts to lose weight and weight control practices. This study aims to investigate matters mentioned above by weight status in Europe, Israel, and North America. This study was conducted in the context of a teacher professional development programme that aimed to improve dialogic teaching in the classroom, and it describes the programme and examines the change in teachers' dialogic teaching practices and pupils' classroom engagement during the programme. Data on pupils' school engagement were collected using classroom video recordings and students' self-ratings at the end of the lesson including dialogic teaching practices.
