The Territory of the Princely Residence of Vix (Côte-d'Or, France): a Geomorphological Approach In the northwestern area of the Alps, the end of the Hallstatt period was characterized by an uncommon social phenomenon illustrated by rich tombs near fortified sites on top of hills, and by an expansion of the territory. Archaeologists represent these territories in the shape of a circle with a radius of 20-25 km. Yet this model needed to be refined by taking into account the sites' natural environment. A test has been administered using the data of the princely residence of Vix.

A multi-disciplinary team is currently working on trachyte, a volcanic rock from the Chaîne des Puys (French massif central), within a research program supported by the French ministry of Culture. Although it has been known at least since the 19th century that this rock was used for construction and sculpture in antiquity, and in the making of sarcophagi in the middle ages, the systematisation of the research on trachyte, carried out since 2008, has enabled us to make significant advances in the knowledge of its exploitation and dissemination. Our purpose here is not to analyze again in detail the term oppidum and its definition, but rather to see how it was used in the specific context of Caesar’s Bellum ciuile. Previous analyses focused mainly on its use in the De Bello Gallico. Thus, the context in which the author uses the term oppidum in a work completed after the Gallic War leads, on the one hand, to question Caesar’s choice of the word oppidum, and, on the other hand, to propose different translations for it; it is through several examples that I wish to underline the complexity of the translator’s approach.

The integrated technological approach of the lithic industries in Southern France Chassey culture and neighbouring cultures is a way to highlight a complex organisation of space. The development of long distance diffusion networks of lithic products from western Provence creates interdependence between producing-exporting sites and receiving-consuming sites. The analysis of their functioning, from raw material sources until remote consuming sites, is undergone on various scales (from supra-regional to local), through lithic technology and use wear analysis.
