Virtual reality exposure and imaginal exposure in the treatment of fear of flying: a pilot study

Fear of flying (FF) is an impairing psychological disorder that is extremely common in developed countries. The most effective treatment for this particular type of phobia is exposure therapy. However, there are few studies comparing imaginal exposure (IE) and virtual reality (VR) exposure for the treatment of FF. The present study compared the effectiveness of these two approaches using two manualized interventions based on the exposure technique. Effect of Footstep Vibrations and Proprioceptive Vibrations Used with an Innovative Navigation Method

This study proposes to investigate the effect of adding vibration feedback to a navigation task in virtual environment. Previous study used footstep vibrations and proprioceptive vibrations in order to decrease the cyber-sickness and increase the sense of presence. In this study, we experiment the same vibration modalities but with a new navigation method. The results show that proprioceptive vibrations do not impact the sense of presence neither the cyber-sickness while footstep vibrations increase sense of presence and decrease in a certain way cyber-sickness. Mediated learning materials: visibility checks in telepresence robot mediated classroom interaction

Videoconferencing is increasingly used in education as a way to support distance learning. This article contributes to the emerging interactional literature on video-mediated educational interaction by exploring how a telepresence robot is used to facilitate remote participation in university-level foreign language teaching. A telepresence robot differs from commonly used videoconferencing set-ups in that it allows mobility and remote camera control. Abstract Synchronous online learning platforms have been used actively during the COVID-19 period. They have opened possibilities for online learning and interaction, but have also posed new challenges for instructors. This article provides insights into one teacher’s interactions and examines how the instructor presence is expressed in the teachers’ activities in virtual classrooms in higher education. Data Augmentation Approach in Bayesian Modelling of Presence-only Data

Abstract Ecologists are interested in prediction of potential distribution of species in suitable areas, essential for planning conservation and management strategies. Unfortunately, often the only available information in such studies is the true presence of the species at few locations of the study area and the associated environmental covariates over the entire area, referred as presence-only data. We propose a Bayesian approach to estimate logistic linear regressions adapted to presence-only data through the introduction of a random approximation of the correction factor in the adjusted logistic model that allows us to overcome the need to know a priori the prevalence of the species.
