Vehicle localization based on scene perception
2021
The vision-based vehicle localization task is tackled as an image-based place recognition problem in this thesis. As image representation is an important process to place recognition, we proposed place recognition methods focusing on increasing the quality of image features. First, the dynamic object removal step is proposed to remove the dynamic objects, such as vehicles and pedestrians, of an image by semantic segmentation method and restore their background information by image inpainting method. Second, reducing instead of removing the noisy information of an image is proposed. Using the image blurring method to reduce the image noise, the performance of place recognition is improved wi…
Characterization of nuclear effects in muon-neutrino scattering on hydrocarbon with a measurement of final-state kinematics and correlations in charg…
2018
This paper reports measurements of final-state proton multiplicity, muon and proton kinematics, and their correlations in charged-current pionless neutrino interactions, measured by the T2K ND280 near detector in its plastic scintillator (C$_8$H$_8$) target. The data were taken between years 2010 and 2013, corresponding to approximately 6$\times10^{20}$ protons on target. Thanks to their exploration of the proton kinematics and of kinematic imbalances between the proton and muon kinematics, the results offer a novel probe of the nuclear-medium effects most pertinent to the (sub-)GeV neutrino-nucleus interactions that are used in accelerator-based long-baseline neutrino oscillation measureme…
A standard conceptual framework for the study of subjective time.
2019
Research on the mental representation of time ('subjective time') has provided broad insights into the nature of time perception and temporal processing. As the field comprises different scientific disciplines, such as psychology, philosophy, and neuroscience, studies differ with regard to the basic terms and concepts used. For this reason, research on subjective time lacks a coherent conceptual system. We argue that research in the field of subjective time should aim at establishing such a system, i.e., a more standardized terminology, in order to strengthen its theoretical basis and to support an efficient communication of results. Based on key empirical findings and concepts that are com…
DelveFS - An Event-Driven Semantic File System for Object Stores
2020
Data-driven applications are becoming increasingly important in numerous industrial and scientific fields, growing the need for scalable data storage, such as object storage. Yet, many data-driven applications cannot use object interfaces directly and often have to rely on third-party file system connectors that support only a basic representation of objects as files in a flat namespace. With sometimes millions of objects per bucket, this simple organization is insufficient for users and applications who are usually only interested in a small subset of objects. These huge buckets are not only lacking basic semantic properties and structure, but they are also challenging to manage from a tec…
Représentations professionnelles des filles et des garçons au collège : les effets d'une pièce de théâtre interactive
2002
Programmes were launched in the French region of Burgundy in order to increase the understanding of the social and cultural obstacles for women in terms of occupational fields, considered a priori as male dominated. As part of this programme, the Compagnie du Sablier performed an interactive theatre play called "Lucie, the technician" ; it was aimed at an audience of lower secondary school pupils. It tells the story of a young girl determined to choose a male dominated occupation, and challenges young people to consider their career choice. The purpose of this study is to analyse the vocational representations of girls and boys, and to look at the pupils' visions of the world of work, in or…

Affine varieties and lie algebras of vector fields
1993
In this article, we associate to affine algebraic or local analytic varieties their tangent algebra. This is the Lie algebra of all vector fields on the ambient space which are tangent to the variety. Properties of the relation between varieties and tangent algebras are studied. Being the tangent algebra of some variety is shown to be equivalent to a purely Lie algebra theoretic property of subalgebras of the Lie algebra of all vector fields on the ambient space. This allows to prove that the isomorphism type of the variety is determinde by its tangent algebra.
Algebras of pseudodifferential operators on complete manifolds
2003
In several influential works, Melrose has studied examples of non-compact manifolds M 0 M_0 whose large scale geometry is described by a Lie algebra of vector fields V ⊂ Γ ( M ; T M ) \mathcal V \subset \Gamma (M;TM) on a compactification of M 0 M_0 to a manifold with corners M M . The geometry of these manifolds—called “manifolds with a Lie structure at infinity”—was studied from an axiomatic point of view in a previous paper of ours. In this paper, we define and study an algebra Ψ 1 , 0 , V ∞ ( M 0 ) \Psi _{1,0,\mathcal V}^\infty (M_0) of pseudodifferential operators canonically associated to a manifold M 0 M_0 with a Lie structure at infinity V ⊂ Γ ( M ; T M ) \mathcal V \subset \Gamma (…
The graded identities of upper triangular matrices of size two
2002
AbstractLet UT2 be the algebra of 2×2 upper triangular matrices over a field F. We first classify all possible gradings on UT2 by a group G. It turns out that, up to isomorphism, there is only one non-trivial grading and we study all the graded polynomial identities for such algebra. In case F is of characteristic zero we give a complete description of the space of multilinear graded identities in the language of Young diagrams through the representation theory of the hyperoctahedral group. We finally establish a result concerning the rate of growth of the identities for such algebra by proving that its sequence of graded codimensions has almost polynomial growth.
