Greenhouse gases from sequential batch membrane bioreactors: A pilot plant case study

Abstract The paper reports the results of nitrous oxide (N 2 O) emissions from aerobic and anoxic tank of a Sequential Batch Membrane Bioreactor (SB-MBR) pilot plant. The influence of salinity variation on N 2 O emission was analyzed by gradually increasing the inlet salt concentration from 0 to 10 g NaCl L −1 . The observed results showed that the N 2 O concentration of the gaseous samples was strongly influenced by the salt concentration. This result was likely related to a worsening of the nitrification activity due to the effect of salinity on autotrophic bacteria. Xenobiotic metabolizing enzyme activities and viability are well preserved in EDTA-isolated rat liver parenchymal cells after cryopreservation

Rat liver parenchymal cells (PC) were isolated by EDTA perfusion and were purified by a subsequent Percoll centrifugation. The isolated PC had a viability of 95%, as judged by trypan blue exclusion. Freshly isolated PC were cryopreserved with an optimized protocol in a computer-controlled freezer. After thawing, the PC still retained a viability of 89%. The activities of representative xenobiotic metabolizing enzymes were compared between freshly isolated and cryopreserved PC after thawing. In vivo survival rate of rabbit morulae after vitrification in a medium without serum protein.

The in vivo survival rate of rabbit morulae after vitrification in a mixture of dimethyl sulphoxide and ethylene glycol solution without protein supplement (WPS) was compared with two types of protein supplements: rabbit serum (RS) and bovine serum albumin (BSA). Significant dif- ferences were observed in the percentage of transferable embryos (undamaged embryos after devit- rification, 80.4 % versus 93.2 and 92.1 %, WPS, BSA and RS, respectively, P < 0.05) and live born rate (40.9 % versus 56.1 %, WPS and BSA, respectively, P < 0.05). Fertility outcome after radical vaginal trachelectomy: a prospective study of 212 patients.

ObjectiveFor treatment in patients with early-stage cervical cancer, radical vaginal trachelectomy (RVT) as a fertility-preserving surgery can be put on a par with radical hysterectomy as to oncologic safety. Our aim was to investigate the fertility concerns and outcome.MethodsProspective collection of fertility data of patients treated with RVT. he goal of this work was to apply the Quasi-chemical primary model (a system of four ordinary differential equations that derives from a hypothetical four-step chemical mechanism involving an antagonistic metabolite) in the study of the evolution of yeast and lactic acid bacteria populations during the storage of Manzanilla–Aloreña table olives subjected to different mixtures of ascorbic acid, sodium metabisulphite and NaCl.
