ResumenLas enfermedades cardiovasculares (CV) son la primera causa de muerte en la población española, tanto en personas diabéticas como no diabéticas. En la diabetes, la enfermedad CV es entre 2 y 4 veces más frecuente, más precoz y más agresiva. Con las medidas actuales se puede llegar a una prevención del ∼50% de la enfermedad CV. Los factores de riesgo CV en la diabetes son la hipertensión arterial (HTA), la dislipemia, el tabaquismo, la obesidad y el sedentarismo. Power-constrained sensor selection and routing for cooperative detection in cognitive radios

Given a spectrum-sensing network, a set of active nodes jointly aggregate sensed data at a preset frequency-band and simultaneously route this information to an arbitrarily chosen querying node through a power-constrained multi-hop path. Locally, each sensor node is assumed to be an energy-based detector. The aquatic ecosystems are dynamic environments often affected directly or indirectly by a myriad of anthropogenic contaminants that need to be properly identified. In this study, liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LC-QqTOF-MS) suspected-screening was applied to mussels and riverine sediment both, non-spiked and spiked with a mixture of 32 pharmaceuticals. Regulation of gene expression by mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) is essential for proper cell adaptation to extracellular stimuli. Exposure of yeast cells to high osmolarity results in rapid activation of the MAPK Hog1, which coordinates the transcriptional programme required for cell survival on osmostress. The mechanisms by which Hog1 and MAPKs in general regulate gene expression are not completely understood, although Hog1 can modify some transcription factors. ABSTRACT The Mpk1 pathway of Saccharomyces cerevisiae is a key determinant of cell wall integrity. A genetic link between the Mpk1 kinase and the Ppz phosphatases has been reported, but the nature of this connection was unclear. Recently, the Ppz phosphatases were shown to be regulators of K + and pH homeostasis. Here, we demonstrate that Ppz-deficient strains display increased steady-state K + levels and sensitivity to increased KCl concentrations. Analysis of the stress resistance of commercial wine yeast strains

Alcoholic fermentation is an essential step in wine production that is usually conducted by yeasts belonging to the species Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The ability to carry out vinification is largely influenced by the response of yeast cells to the stress conditions that affect them during this process. In this work, we present a systematic analysis of the resistance of 14 commercial S. cerevisiae wine yeast strains to heat shock, ethanol, oxidative, osmotic and glucose starvation stresses. Study of the First Hours of Microvinification by the Use of Osmotic Stress-response Genes as Probes

Summary When yeast cells are inoculated into grape must for vinification they find stress conditions because of osmolarity, which is due to very high sugar concentration, and pH lower than 4. In this work an analysis of the expression of three osmotic stress induced genes ( GPD1 , HSP12 and HSP104 ) under microvinification conditions is shown as a way to probe those stress situations and the regulatory mechanisms that control them. The results indicate that during the first hours of microvinification there is an increase in the GPD1 mRNA levels with a maximum about one hour after inoculation, and a decrease in the amount of HSP12 and HSP104 mRNAs, although with differences between them. The Lsm1-7/Pat1 complex binds to stress-activated mRNAs and modulates the response to hyperosmotic shock.

RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) establish the cellular fate of a transcript, but an understanding of these processes has been limited by a lack of identified specific interactions between RNA and protein molecules. Using MS2 RNA tagging, we have purified proteins associated with individual mRNA species induced by osmotic stress, STL1 and GPD1. We found members of the Lsm1-7/Pat1 RBP complex to preferentially bind these mRNAs, relative to the non-stress induced mRNAs, HYP2 and ASH1.
