How do gender, Internet activity and learning beliefs predict sixth-grade students’ self-efficacy beliefs in and attitudes towards online inquiry?

Today’s students search, evaluate and actively use Web information in their school assignments, that is, they conduct an online inquiry. This current survey study addresses sixth-grade students’ self-efficacy beliefs in and attitudes towards online inquiry, and to what extent free-time and school-related Internet activity, gender and learning beliefs explain these. The questionnaire was administered in 10 schools to 340 sixth-graders in Finland. Impact of physical effort on von Willebrand factor’s activity and concentration in blood

Background and Study Aim: Physical exercise causes a wide range of physiological changes including the production and release of haemostasis regulating factors. One of these factors is von Willebrand factor (vWf)- a glycoprotein responsible for both platelet adhesion and coagulation cascade. Material and Methods: The impact of physical effort on von Willebrand’s factor’s concentration (vWf:Ag) and activity (vWf:CBA) underwent analysis in the group of 42 people (22 men and 20 women) aged 19-22 (mean 20, SD 8 months). Nustatyta, kad mokinių įsitikinimai apie savo gebėjimus, susidomėjimas lietuvių kalba, tėvų lūkesčiai bei 2-os klasės pasiekimai tarpusavyje siejasi teigiamais ryšiais. Kontroliuojant vaiko lytį, tėvų išsilavinimą bei 1-os klasės pasiekimus, geresnius pasiekimus 2-oje klasėje prognozuoja aukštesni tėvų lūkesčiai ir geresni vaikų savų gebėjimų vertinimai. Calibration of the underground muon detector of the Pierre Auger Observatory

To obtain direct measurements of the muon content of extensive air showers with energy above $10^{16.5}$ eV, the Pierre Auger Observatory is currently being equipped with an underground muon detector (UMD), consisting of 219 10 $\mathrm{m^2}$-modules, each segmented into 64 scintillators coupled to silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs). Direct access to the shower muon content allows for the study of both of the composition of primary cosmic rays and of high-energy hadronic interactions in the forward direction. Abstract Objective To evaluate the clinical results and survival of primary hip prosthesis with ceramic delta bearings (C-C) with a minimum follow-up of 5 years. Material and method A total of 205 primary hip arthroplasties performed between 2008 and 2012 were studied. The clinical results, pre-surgical and at 5 years of follow-up were evaluated using the Harris Hip Score (HHS), the Short Form-36 (SF-36), the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), and the visual analogue scale (VAS). Lateral Ligament Reconstruction

The lateral collateral ligament complex represents the primary lateral elbow ligament stabilizers. In cases of lateral elbow instability, surgical treatment is recommended. Repair should be anatomical and should restore stability to the elbow in order to permit an early active range of motion. Anatomic repair of soft tissue avulsions from bone can be performed with trans-osseous suture or suture anchors. Reconstruction may be required in severe cases and where primary repair is not possible. This chapter describes the surgical techniques for repair and reconstruction of the lateral collateral ligament of the elbow.

Abstract Background Conventional high-grade osteosarcoma is a primary malignant bone tumor, which is most prevalent in adolescence. Survival rates of osteosarcoma patients have not improved significantly in the last 25 years. Aiming to increase this survival rate, a variety of model systems are used to study osteosarcomagenesis and to test new therapeutic agents.
