Stress gradient versus strain gradient constitutive models within elasticity

2014

Abstract A stress gradient elasticity theory is developed which is based on the Eringen method to address nonlocal elasticity by means of differential equations. By suitable thermodynamics arguments (involving the free enthalpy instead of the free internal energy), the restrictions on the related constitutive equations are determined, which include the well-known Eringen stress gradient constitutive equations, as well as the associated (so far uncertain) boundary conditions. The proposed theory exhibits complementary characters with respect to the analogous strain gradient elasticity theory. The associated boundary-value problem is shown to admit a unique solution characterized by a Helling…

Norm-inflation results for purely BBM-type Boussinesq systems

2022

This article is concerned with the norm-inflation phenomena associated with a periodic initial-value abcd-Benjamin-Bona-Mahony type Boussinesq system. We show that the initial-value problem is ill-posed in the periodic Sobolev spaces H−sp (0, 2π)×H−sp (0, 2π) for all s > 0. Our proof is constructive, in the sense that we provide smooth initial data that generates solutions arbitrarily large in H−sp (0, 2π) × H−sp (0, 2π)-norm for arbitrarily short time. This result is sharp since in [15] the well-posedness is proved to holding for all positive periodic Sobolev indexes of the form Hsp (0, 2π) × Hsp (0, 2π), including s = 0. peerReviewed

Bridging the gap between research and practice : using phenomenographic findings to develop training for career practitioners

2021

AbstractThis study contends that phenomenography offers both a useful research method and practical tools for developing education and training for career practitioners. After introducing the basic principles of phenomenography, the study reviews previous research on its potential in developing pedagogical practices. It explores how the phenomenographic findings were utilized to design an online skills training programme for career practitioners. The study finds that phenomenographic research serves three practical pedagogical purposes: (1) revealing how learners understand certain concepts or phenomena, (2) elucidating how these understandings differ; and (3) identifying critical aspects i…

New land valuation criteria after the Spanish 2011 Valuation of Land Regulation : the objectivation of building expectations in rural land

2013

The land valuation regime has undergone one of its most important modifications at the hands of the 2008 Land Act and its 2011 Regulation. According to the so-called objectivity principle - which defines all established methods for the new basic situations of land - and according to the stated prohibition of taking into consideration building expectations arising from granted planning permission, the fact is that the existence of circumstances that are not a natural consequence of landowner investments made on the property is easily deducible. This is inconsistent with the spirit of the Land Act in force contained in its Explanatory Memorandum.

Shaping of a ground state rotational wavepacket by frequency-chirped pulses

2001

0953-4075; A coherent rotational superposition state is produced in the ground vibronic level of N2 through the interaction of the molecule with the electric field vector of a nonresonant laser pulse. This rotational wavepacket is shaped with a linear frequency chirp of the laser field. The structural shape of the rotational coherences shows a strong dependence with the frequency-chirp amplitude. A comparison with a theoretical model allows the interpretation of the observed effects in terms of dephasing of the wavepacket induced by the laser phase distortion. Application of the presented results to the phase characterization of short XUV pulses is suggested.

EL ARTÍCULO 324 DEL CÓDIGO ORGÁNICO DE TRIBUNALES Y EL PRINCIPIO DE IGUALDAD EN EL ORDENAMIENTO JURÍDICO CHILENO

2005

This paper examines the rule embodied in the second paragraph…

A note on the uniqueness result for the inverse Henderson problem

2019

The inverse Henderson problem of statistical mechanics is the theoretical foundation for many bottom-up coarse-graining techniques for the numerical simulation of complex soft matter physics. This inverse problem concerns classical particles in continuous space which interact according to a pair potential depending on the distance of the particles. Roughly stated, it asks for the interaction potential given the equilibrium pair correlation function of the system. In 1974, Henderson proved that this potential is uniquely determined in a canonical ensemble and he claimed the same result for the thermodynamical limit of the physical system. Here, we provide a rigorous proof of a slightly more …

Continuous measurement of cardiac output by the Fick principle in infants and children: comparison with the thermodilution method.

1996

To compare a system that continuously monitors cardiac output by the Fick principle with measurements by the thermodilution technique in pediatric patients.Prospective direct comparison of the above two techniques.Pediatric intensive care unit of a university hospital.25 infants and children, aged 1 week to 17 years (median 10 months), who had undergone open heart surgery were studied. Only patients without an endotracheal tube leak and without a residual shunt were included. The system based on the Fick principle uses measurements of oxygen consumption taken by a metabolic monitor and of arterial and mixed venous oxygen saturation taken by pulse- and fiberoptic oximetry to calculate cardiac…

Pedagogika katolicka – znaczenie i aktualność w kontekście chaosu wartości (perspektywa polska)

2017

Education cannot be reduced to information and should guarantee to the students and their parents the freedom of making axiological decisions and solutions. The above mentioned right is confimed by the right of parents to raise their children according to their own conceptions. In the contemporary chaos of values and principles of education the Catholic education remains a topical, interesting and important proposal for school.

On Approximation of Entropy Solutions for One System of Nonlinear Hyperbolic Conservation Laws with Impulse Source Terms

2010

We study one class of nonlinear fluid dynamic models with impulse source terms. The model consists of a system of two hyperbolic conservation laws: a nonlinear conservation law for the goods density and a linear evolution equation for the processing rate. We consider the case when influx-rates in the second equation take the form of impulse functions. Using the vanishing viscosity method and the so-called principle of fictitious controls, we show that entropy solutions to the original Cauchy problem can be approximated by optimal solutions of special optimization problems.
