Decision Making on Pareto Front Approximations with Inherent Nondominance

t Approximating the Pareto fronts of nonlinear multiobjective optimization problems is considered and a property called inherent nondominance is proposed for such approximations. It is shown that an approximation having the above property can be explored by interactively solving a multiobjective optimization problem related to it. This exploration can be performed with available interactive multiobjective optimization methods. The ideas presented are especially useful in solving computationally expensive multiobjective optimization problems with costly function value evaluations. peerReviewed

An improved method for estimating the frequency correlation function

For time-invariant frequency-selective channels, the transfer function is a superposition of waves having different propagation delays and path gains. In order to estimate the frequency correlation function (FCF) of such channels, the frequency averaging technique can be utilized. The obtained FCF can be expressed as a sum of auto-terms (ATs) and cross-terms (CTs). The ATs are caused by the autocorrelation of individual path components. The CTs are due to the cross-correlation of different path components. These CTs have no physical meaning and leads to an estimation error. Necessary conditions for extremality and separation theorems with applications to multiobjective optimization

The aim of this paper is to give necessary conditions for extremality in terms of an abstract subdifferential and to obtain general separation theorems including both finite and infinite classical separation theorems. This approach, which is mainly based on Ekeland's variational principle and the concept of locally weak-star compact cones, can be considered as a generalization f the notions of optima in problems of scalar or vector optimization with and without constraints. The results obtained are applied to derive new necessary optimality conditions for Pareto local minimum and weak Pareto minimum of nonsmooth multlobjectivep rogramming problems.

Given a self-mapping g: A → A and a non-self-mapping T: A → B, the aim of this work is to provide sufficient conditions for the existence of a unique point x ∈ A, called g-best proximity point, which satisfies d g x, T x = d A, B. In so doing, we provide a useful answer for the resolution of the nonlinear programming problem of globally minimizing the real valued function x → d g x, T x, thereby getting an optimal approximate solution to the equation T x = g x. Annihilating sets for the short time Fourier transform

Abstract We obtain a class of subsets of R 2 d such that the support of the short time Fourier transform (STFT) of a signal f ∈ L 2 ( R d ) with respect to a window g ∈ L 2 ( R d ) cannot belong to this class unless f or g is identically zero. Moreover we prove that the L 2 -norm of the STFT is essentially concentrated in the complement of such a set. A generalization to other Hilbert spaces of functions or distributions is also provided. To this aim we obtain some results on compactness of localization operators acting on weighted modulation Hilbert spaces.

A Carleson type inequality for fully nonlinear elliptic equations with non-Lipschitz drift term

This paper concerns the boundary behavior of solutions of certain fully nonlinear equations with a general drift term. We elaborate on the non-homogeneous generalized Harnack inequality proved by the second author in (Julin, ARMA -15), to prove a generalized Carleson estimate. We also prove boundary H\"older continuity and a boundary Harnack type inequality.

Abstract This paper explores the use of electric car roof mounted photovoltaic (PV) powered ventilation for cabin heat management/ventilation. A fully-functional Renault Zoe electric car has been used for performance evaluation of parked electric car ventilation directly powered by PV. This work has been part of a research project of testing electric cars in the urban environment and it has been conducted at the Edinburgh Napier University’s Transport Research Institute.
