Antioxidant Bibenzyl Derivatives from Notholaena nivea Desv.
2011
Four new bibenzyl derivatives were isolated, together with other known bibenzyls, by bioassay-guided fractionation of a CHCl3-MeOH extract of Notholaena nivea Desv. (Pteridaceae) aerial parts. The structures were elucidated by NMR, ESIMS and other spectral analyses. Their antioxidative effects towards superoxide, lipidic peroxidation and the 2,2'- azino-bis-3- ethilbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS) radical were assayed. Results showed that the compound 3,12-dihydroxy-5-methoxybibenzyl (6) is the most active compound in the ABTS free-radical scavenging test, while in the coupled oxidation of ȕ-carotene and linoleic acid assay the compound 5,12-dihydroxy-3-methoxydibenzyl-6- carboxylic a…
Slaveries and New Slaveries: Which Role for Human Dignity?
2020
This paper aims at reflecting on the role of the notion of "human dignity" with respect to slavery and new slaveries. First of all, a very brief reflection is carried out on the different legal meanings of the notion at stake in general terms (para. 2). On this basis, some remarks are developed with specific regard to the role played by dignity concerning new slaveries in the case law of international tribunals (European and Inter-American Courts of Human Rights, International Criminal Court, International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia: paras 3 and 4), particularly in the very recent case law of the European Court (para. 5) Such a role is far from being insignificant: the idea…

La giurisprudenza del Collegio di Garanzia dello Sport nel suo quarto anno di attività
2018
This essay analyzes the decisions of Sport Guarantee Committee issued in the year 2018. It follows the previous essay dedicated to the jurisprudence of Sport Guarantee Committee during the past three years of activity, published in this same journal, with the dual aim of updating with respect to the issues already dealt with therein and of enlargement with regard to new issues. As well as the previous, the present essay, for the function prformed by the Author within the Sport Guarantee Committee, carries a reasoned analysis, but with a merely descriptive cut, of the main jurisprudential approaches expressed in the decisions of the Guarantee Committe, with the aim to extrapolate the rules a…

Navigating uncharted waters: Designing business models for virtual and augmented reality companies in the medical industry
2021
Abstract New technologies are at the heart of industry transformation. Virtual and augmented reality companies provide fundamentally new ways of communication, treatment, education, and specialist training within the medical industry. However, business models for new ventures that target the medical industry have received scant attention within academic research. Using a multiple case study approach, we analyze how virtual and augmented reality firms create value for their customers in the medical industry. In all, we have studied eight companies that offer different types of solutions for their target segments. The results of the analysis are four design elements consisting of twelve posit…
