Abstract Iatrogenic colonoscopy perforation (ICP) is a severe complication that can occur during both diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Although 45–60% of ICPs are diagnosed by the endoscopist while performing the colonoscopy, many ICPs are not immediately recognized but are instead suspected on the basis of clinical signs and symptoms that occur after the endoscopic procedure. There are three main therapeutic options for ICPs: endoscopic repair, conservative therapy, and surgery. Abstract The spectral shoulder formed at 440 nm in microsomes oxidising hexobarbital and other drugs has been investigated and some of its properties characterised. Hexobarbital, pentobarbital, ethylmorphine and barbital produce this shoulder, while acetanilide, aniline, desmethylimipramine, imipramine, metyrapone and SKF 525-A do not. The formation of the 440 nm shoulder depends on the presence of NADPH and oxygen and is reduced in size when NADH is also present. At saturating substrate concentrations the size of the 440 nm shoulder is correlated to the cytochrome P-450 content. Background and Aims As our previous study indicated, almost half of juvenile delinquents continued offending in adulthood, while the rest ceased to do so. We compared these groups with each other and with non‐offenders in the life‐course use of alcohol, identity development and life situation. Methods Based on the Jyväskylä Longitudinal Study of Personality and Social Development, four groups were formed at age 42 for men and women: persistent, adolescence‐limited and adult‐onset offenders and non‐offenders. A hypotensive procyanidin-glycoside from Rhamnus lycioides ssp. lycioides.

A lyophilized hot water extract of the aerial parts of Rhamnus lycioides L. (Rhamnaceae) produced a lowering of systemic arterial blood pressure in normotensive anaesthetized Wistar rats. An activity-guided fractionation of the methanolic extract led to the isolation of a tetrameric procyanidin-glycoside which produced a clear dose-dependent hypotensive response (1.5-6 mg/kg i.v.). This principle was characterized using acid hydrolysis, thiolytic degradation and spectroscopic methods. It consisted of four flavanol units with a 2,3-cis configuration and with a O-beta-d-glucosylpyranoside function on the epicatechin terminal unit. The interflavan linkage was (4-8).

Microsurgical treatment of midfacial tumours involving the skull base

Various approaches to the base of the skull for the treatment of cranial base tumours are described in detail. Advantages and disadvantages of the particular approaches are discussed. This clinical experience is based on 303 neoplasms involving the base of the skull, operated on by the authors. Retrospective survival studies are presented and a review of the literature on the subject is discussed. Utilizing microsurgical techniques the 2-, 3- and 5-year survival rates were significantly improved. The functional and aesthetic outcomes were also dramatically superior compared with standard ablative procedures. Reconstructive postoperative strategies are suggested.

Several surgical approaches are being used to induce myocardial ischemia in rats. The present study investigated two different operative procedures in spontaneously breathing and mechanically ventilated rats under sham conditions. A snare around the left coronary artery (LCA) was achieved without occlusion. Left lateral thoracotomy was performed in spontaneously breathing and mechanically ventilated rats (tidal volume 8 ml/kg) with a respiratory rate of 90 strokes/min at different levels of O2 supplementation (room air and 30, 40, and 90% O2).
