Hydrophobic pocket targeting probes for enteroviruses

Visualization and tracking of viruses without compromising their functionality is crucial in order to understand virus targeting to cells and tissues, and to understand the subsequent subcellular steps leading to virus uncoating and replication. Enteroviruses are important human pathogens causing a vast number of acute infections, and are also suggested to contribute to the development of chronic diseases like type I diabetes. Cryogenic 35GHz pulse ENDOR probehead accommodating large sample sizes: Performance and applications.

The construction and performance of a cryogenic 35GHz pulse electron nuclear double resonance (ENDOR) probehead for large samples is presented. The resonator is based on a rectangular TE(102) cavity in which the radio frequency (rf) B(2)-field is generated by a two turn saddle ENDOR coil crossing the resonator along the sample axis with minimal distance to the sample tube. An rf power efficiency factor is used to define the B(2)-field strength per square-root of the transmitted rf power over the frequency range 2-180MHz. Magnetic near-field probes (NFP) represent a suitable tool to measure the magnetic field level from a small electromagnetic interference (EMI) source. This kind of antenna is useful as a magnetic field probe for pre-compliance EMC measurements or debugging tasks since the user can scan a printed circuit board (PCB) looking for locations with strong magnetic fields. When a strong H-field point is found, the designer should check the PCB layout and components placement in that area to detect if this could result in an EMI source. Evidence for a biogenic, microorganismal origin of rock varnish from the Gangdese Belt of Tibet

In the present study we examined material from the Ashikule Basin of Tibet. Chemical analyses were performed by use of energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and electron probe microanalysis to clarify whether the varnish layers that had developed on the surface of the rhyolite are indeed composed of varnish bodies and silica glaze. Electron microscopic analyses revealed that the surface of the varnish is covered both by filamentous hyphae bacterial and cocci-shaped forms. Abstract This paper reports an analytical study of enamel on fragments of medieval tiles using atomic spectroscopy techniques — AAS, XRF and SEM/EDX. The samples came from a hermitage in the region of Valencia (Spain) and have different motifs, mainly floral ones in a wide variety of colors. A study of the soluble salts in the biscuits and mortar was carried out using AAS to determine their present capacity to produce efflorescence and the type of efflorescence. XRF was used to identify the oxides responsible for the different colors and the pigments used over large areas of the tiles (white and green). Representative major element compositions (in wt%) of clinopyroxenes and phlogopites from Nangqian ultrapotassic rocks. In-situ major-element compositions of mineral phases were obtained using the JEOL JXA-8230 Electron Microprobe at ISTerre, University Grenoble Alpes. Analytical conditions were 15 kV accelerating voltage and 12 nA beam current. The ZAF procedure was applied to reduce the raw data. The microprobe was calibrated using natural and synthetic standards. An X-ray element map of a calcite-bearing aggregate was acquired using 15 kV accelerating voltage and 10 nA beam current.

Rat fetuin: distribution of protein and mRNA in embryonic and neonatal rat tissues

Fetuin is a serum protein widely distributed in the animal kingdom and found in all mammalian species so far investigated. It is mainly a fetal protein, in the sense that the highest concentrations are found in serum and body fluids of embryos and fetuses. In order to elucidate possible biological functions of fetuin, we have studied its synthesis and distribution during the prenatal development of the rat with immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization. Abstract This paper aims to characterize a bulk dense FeAl (47 at.%) alloy synthesized and consolidated by one-step current-activated pressure-assisted processing of nanocrystalline elemental powders. Distribution of chlorpromazine in a simplified blood influenced by various drugs

The binding of chlorpromazine to erythrocytes and to albumin as influenced by other drugs was studied in a simplified blood (31.5±0.3% bovine erythrocytes, 4 g-% bovine serum albumin in 0.02 M phosphate buffer solution containing 0.15 M NaCl). the total concentration of chlorpromazine in the simplified blood was 10−4 M, the concentration of the displacing drugs was 10−3 M. After an incubation period of 3 h at 22° C the chlorpromazine concentration was determined in the albumin solution after centrifugation of the blood at 3000×g and in the aqueous phase after ultracentrifugation at 150000×g.
