No invasive methodology to produce a probiotic low humid apple snack with potential effect against Helicobacter pylori

Abstract A probiotic low humid apple snack with potential effect against the infection caused by Helicobacter pylori has been developed from apple (cv. Granny Smith) and mandarin juice with a high microbial content of Lactobacillus salivarius spp . salivarius , by vacuum impregnation and hot air drying techniques. Probiotics are live microorganisms that can act on the immune system at specific sites in the gastro-intestinal tract. From a technological point of view, the development of a dietary supplement containing viable and functional probiotics requires the control of the selection and production steps. Probiotics in the prevention and treatment of atopic dermatitis

The use of probiotic supplements might change the composition of the intestinal flora of children, subsequently modulating the immune system's reactivity. The effects of probiotic administration for the prevention/treatment of allergic diseases and atopic dermatitis, in particular, are still so controversial that no definitive recommendation can be made at this stage. Differences in strain specificity, timing, and length of administration all contribute to diversifying the conclusions of this review.

Probiotic properties of Brevibacillus brevis and its influence on sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) larval rearing

Efficacy of Brevibacillus brevis strain and its influence on larval rearing of sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) were investigated in the present work. Biochemical analyses permit to identify this strain as B. brevis. This bacterium has an inhibitory effect against fish pathogenic bacteria, especially the genus of Vibrio. Enzymatic characterization revealed that B. brevis was lipase positive, amylase, lecithinase and caseinase negative. Adherence assays to abiotic surfaces and challenge test with Artemia larvae demonstrate that B. brevis was fairly adherent and play an important role in the enhancement of the protection of Artemia culture against pathogens. The exopolysaccharide synthesized by Lactobacillus sakei MN1 is a dextran with antiviral and immunomodulatory properties of potential utility in aquaculture. In this work we have investigated the genetic basis of dextran production by this bacterium. Southern blot hybridization experiments demonstrated the plasmidic location of the dsrLS gene, which encodes the dextransucrase involved in dextran synthesis.
