A new polyphosphate calcium material with morphogenetic activity

Abstract Polyphosphate [polyP] has been proven to elicit morphogenetic activity on bone cells. By applying mild reaction conditions, a Ca-polyP material that displays a hardness of ≈1.3 GPa has been fabricated. The Ca-polyP granules are prone to hydrolytic degradation during in vitro incubation of the cells, suggesting that this property is associated with the observed bioactivity.

Abstract Introduction The main cause of ischial pressure sores in paraplegic patients is prolonged sitting without pressure relief. These wounds are subject to recurrence and may need repeated reconstruction with local flaps. When all options are exhausted, the total thigh flap is the last resort. Disarticulation of the hip joint impairs stability even when sitting and causes subsequently very high discomfort. In this manuscript, we describe an alternative to the total thigh flap to avoid hip disarticulation: the foot fillet flap. Endoluminal Stent-Graft Relining of Visceral Artery Bypass Grafts to Treat Perigraft Seroma

PURPOSE: To describe the endovascular treatment of intra-abdominal perigraft seromas associated with small-caliber expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) grafts. CASE REPORTS: Two patients who underwent hybrid repair of thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms in which renovisceral bypass grafts were implanted presented with large, symptomatic perigraft seromas. The 5- to 8-mm-diameter ePTFE bypass grafts believed to be involved in the seromas were successfully relined with self-expanding Viabahn stent-grafts in percutaneous procedures. Abstract Background In some patients, an initial pull-through procedure for Hirschsprung's disease fails, and obstructive symptoms persist or recur. Then a repeated pull-through operation may be necessary. Methods Seventeen patients with Hirschsprung's disease aged 2 to 9 years (median, 4.6 years) have undergone a repeated pull-through procedure because of unresponsive symptoms after an initial operation. The initial procedure was Soave in 3 patients, Rehbein in 13 patients, and Duhamel in 1 patient.
