Objective The aim the study was to evaluate area and volumetric changes in the upper airway after bimaxillary correction of Class III malocclusion by the means of computer tomography (CT), and to compare these to the changes in linear measurements from lateral cephalograms. Surgeons of varicocele are at present still searching for a gold standard technique, which can correct varicocele without any recurrences, maintaining optimal testicular function, having got minimal current and future morbidity and being cost effective. We evaluated the presence of these criteria in the technique of sub-inguinal dilated vein interruption.Between 1994 and 2001, 142 youngsters and adolescents underwent surgery for varicocele repair at our hospital. In many mammals, including rodents and humans, removal of one lung results in the compensatory growth of the remaining lung; however, the mechanism of compensatory lung growth is unknown. Here, we investigated the changes in morphology and phenotype of pleural cells after pneumonectomy. Between days 1 and 3 after pneumonectomy, cells expressing α-smooth muscle actin (SMA), a cytoplasmic marker of myofibroblasts, were significantly increased in the pleura compared to surgical controls (p < .01).
