Gustatory evoked cortical activity in humans in response to saccharin stimuli

2014

National audience; Introduction/Objectives: Gustatory Evoked Potentials (GEP) can be detected in response to an intermittent stimulation of the gustatory receptors by a primary flavour. Contrary the other evoked cortical potentials (visual, auditory or sensory), GEP have not been extensively studied due to their recording heterogeneity. Our aim was to establish a reliable recording of GEP in Humans. Methods: Voluntary and healthy subjects were included in this experiment. A saccharin solution with several concentrations (5, 10 or 20g per 100mL) was used as the gustatory stimulus. Each session was performed on a different day, with an interval of at least 2 hours after eating or drinking. Co…

Les matériaux pour capteurs chimiques

2002

National audience; A chemical sensor is composed of one part supplying chemical reco gnition coupled to one transducingsystem. At the recognition origin, interaction with the target chemical species is oftwo types, either electronicexchange, or ionic exchange. Two large classes of materials that can supply recognition proceed: metals andsemiconductors giving rise to electronic exchange and ionic conducting materials giving rise to ionic exchan-ge. This paper is structured in tw o large parts, emphasizing on materi als inducing specific interactions:semiconductor materials (metallic oxides and molecular semiconductors) and ionic conductor materials. In each part will be presented nature of ma…

Etude par analyse thermique différentielle des tranformations de phases sur l'iodate de lithium

1986

International audience; Lithium iodate (LiIO3) exists at room temperature either as hexagonal (alpha) or tetragonal (beta) crystals. Beta-LiIO3 is stable up to the melting point, whereas alpha-LiIO3 is known to undergo phase transitions. We have studied by differential thermal analysis (DTA) the sequence of phase transitions occurring on powders prepared by different processes. An alpha-LiIO3 powder obtained by grinding a single crystal exhibits the well-known transformations alpha-gamma-beta. A powder obtained by fast evaporation of an aqueous solution transforms directly the alpha to the beta and does not exhibit any intermediate gamma phase. Further, DTA investigations point out that the…

Comparison of RK and confidence judgement ROCs in recognition memory.

2011

author cannot archive publisher's version/PDF; International audience; Several indicators have been used to differentiate familiarity and recollection processes. One dualist theory stipulates that it is possible to decide whether memories come from a feeling of knowing or from a conscious retrieval of the encoding and storage conditions (remembering). Another dualist theory is based on an indirect estimation of familiarity and recollection via the subjective confidence associated with recognition responses, and from an analysis of the derived receiver operating characteristics (ROC). In the present study, participants were presented with target words or faces that they subsequently had to r…

Development and pilot-scale validation of a fuzzy-logic control system for optimization of methane production in fixed-bed reactors

2018

International audience; The objective of this study was to develop an advanced control system for optimizing the performance of fixed-bed anaerobic reactors. The controller aimed at maximizing the bio-methane production whilst controlling the volatile fatty acids content in the effluent. For this purpose, a fuzzy-logic controller was developed, tuned and validated in an anaerobic fixed-bed reactor at pilot scale (350 L) treating raw winery wastewater. The results showed that the controller was able to adequately optimize the process performance, maximizing the methane production in terms of methane flow rate, resulting in an average methane yield of about 0.29 LCH4 g−1 COD. On the other han…
