OCT for Assessing Artificial Tears Effectiveness in Contact Lens Wearers

PURPOSE: To apply a commercially available high-resolution spectral domain optical coherence tomographer (SOCT) to assess the change in tear volume after application of a new artificial tears formulation specifically developed for contact lens (CL) users. METHODS: Twenty OD from young healthy CL wearers (mean age, 24.7 ± 3.5 years) with refractive errors ranging from -0.75 to -2.50 D (mean, -1.56 ± 0.69 D) were examined. Endo-neuro-sonography: principles and 3-D technique

To evaluate the usefulness of transendoscopic sonography we studied two new sono probes 6 F in diameter in 17 fresh specimens. We saw precise imaging of well-known anatomical structures and also gained an additional dimension in endoscopy, as the sono adds to the endo-view a transverse scan like a mini-CT at the tip of the probe. We also experienced the navigation characteristic of this imaging technique, both in real time and on line. Some 3-D reconstructions of the ventricular system were examined. The equipment has been used in clinical practice and must now be adapted for neurosurgery.

Alterations involved with the intervertebral disc degeneration are partly well described, however, it is not so well known how collagen network is affected by the disease. We analyzed the rate of collagen biosynthesis (estimated by the enzymic activities of prolyl 4-hydroxylase and galactosylhydroxylysyl glucosyltransferase) and the level of hydroxylysylpyridinoline and lysylpyridinoline crosslinks both in normal (n=7) and degenerated (n=7) human annulus fibrosus. Virtual reality treatment of claustrophobia: a case report.

The efficacy of a treatment for claustrophobia using only Virtual Reality (VR) exposure was examined. The subject was a 43-year-old female who suffered from clinically significant distress and impairment and sought psychological therapy. Eight individual VR graded exposure sessions were conducted. All self-report measures were reduced following VR exposure and were maintained at one month follow-up. The necessity of a theoretical framework for this new medium for exposure therapy is discussed.

Mismatch negativity during objective and subjective sleepiness.

The mismatch negativity (MMN) and P3 of auditory event-related potentials were studied during subjectively and objectively (physiologically) defined sleepiness under optimal stimulus conditions for MMN elicitation. The MMN and P3 were elicited by either small or large unattended auditory deviants presented to the left ear. The participant's task was to detect either rare auditory targets presented to the right ear or rare changes in the light flashes. Eleven young adults served as participants in a nighttime experiment. Abstract Objective The peripheral intrahepatic biliary anatomy, especially at the sectorial level on the right side, has not been adequately described. The purpose of our study was to systematically describe this complex anatomy in clinically applicable fashion. Purpose To assess the transferability of the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) multislice multiecho T2* technique for global and segmental measurement of iron overload in thalassemia patients. Materials and Methods Multiecho T2* sequences were installed on six MRI scanners.
