Extending PluTo for Multiple Devices by Integrating OpenACC
2018
For many years now, processor vendors increased the performance of their devices by adding more cores and wider vectorization units to their CPUs instead of scaling up the processors' clock frequency. Moreover, GPUs became popular for solving problems with even more parallel compute power. To exploit the full potential of modern compute devices, specific codes are necessary which are often coded in a hardware-specific manner. Usually, the codes for CPUs are not usable for GPUs and vice versa. The programming API OpenACC tries to close this gap by enabling one code-base to be suitable and optimized for many devices. Nevertheless, OpenACC is rarely used by `standard programmers' and while dif…
BREVI OSSERVAZIONI SULL’ONERE DI SPECIFICA CONTESTAZIONE E IL DIVIETO DI NOVA IN APPELLO NEL RITO DEL LAVORO: LA CORRELAZIONE TRA ONERE DI CONTESTAZI…
2015
Crop Yield Estimation and Interpretability With Gaussian Processes
2021
This work introduces the use of Gaussian processes (GPs) for the estimation and understanding of crop development and yield using multisensor satellite observations and meteo- rological data. The proposed methodology combines synergistic information on canopy greenness, biomass, soil, and plant water content from optical and microwave sensors with the atmospheric variables typically measured at meteorological stations. A com- posite covariance is used in the GP model to account for varying scales, nonstationary, and nonlinear processes. The GP model reports noticeable gains in terms of accuracy with respect to other machine learning approaches for the estimation of corn, wheat, and soybean …

2014
Abuse of process, and related expressions, such as abuse of procedural rights, have in relatively recent times become part of the legal language of continental countries, such as Italy. But, since the introduction of the use of the concept, it has increasingly been an object and aim of several doctrinal contributions, which are here scrutinized. The essay concentrates upon the evolution of legal proceedings amounting to abuse of process, according to the definition which bases itself on the unfair and inadequate use of the process for purposes profoundly differing from those typical of the individual right to the access of justice. Initially, it was the state, when prosecuting a defendant f…
Automatic detection and classification of retinal vascular landmarks
2014
The main contribution of this paper is introducing a method to distinguish between different landmarks of the retina: bifurcations and crossings. The methodology may help in differentiating between arteries and veins and is useful in identifying diseases and other special pathologies, too. The method does not need any special skills, thus it can be assimilated to an automatic way for pinpointing landmarks; moreover it gives good responses for very small vessels. A skeletonized representation, taken out from the segmented binary image (obtained through a preprocessing step), is used to identify pixels with three or more neighbors. Then, the junction points are classified into bifurcations or…
