Production of written French skills by first generation immigrants in working age

This paper aims to identify factors explaining the level of proficiency in written French by immigrants in working age, knowing that few research has been conducted in France on this issue. The originality of this paper is the stochastic production frontier model to explain the scores in written French and the productive performance of immigrants (considered as producers of their own skills). The main results show that mother tongue, age at immigration, social life and mother's diploma are elements which influence the effectiveness of this production. Trust and social capital work in social networks as informal institutions, favouring cooperation between the participants of such social interaction. The sociology of consumption is as old as sociology itself. Its methodological roots lie in the first surveys, which focused on food consumption and were conducted in the middle of the nineteenth century. The aim was to define the level of minimum wage that was high enough to sustain the reproduction of the labor force. Abstract The metaphor of Asia is frequently used nowadays as a concept for regional identity, but it is very problematical because geographic Asia contains such a large piece of humanity in all cultural, political and economic forms. Historically Asia also has negative connotations, and at times other regional concepts have been preferred over it. Pan‐Asianism, Greater East Asia, Asian‐African cooperation, Asian Socialism, Southeast Asia, Western Pacific, Asia Pacific, and East Asia are some of the regionalist permutations of the metaphor of Asia during this century, but thus far no strong institutional structures have emerged to fill the concepts with lasting and effective political power.

In spite of the unified type of junior secondary school (the "college") implemented in France since 1975, significant social inequalities of school careers can be observed today. A specific longitudinal study sheds some light on the variety of mechanisms which generate these social inequalities. In this article I explore the making of national culture through bureaucratic routines in the Centre for National Culture in Wa, North-Western Ghana. I focus on an aspect of bureaucracy that is usually left aside: the productivity and creativity of bureaucratic routines.
