The results inform educators of the wid…
Awareness and knowledge of cyberethics : a study of pre-service teachers in Malta, Norway, and Spain
2021
This paper explores the awareness and knowledge of cyberethics held by pre-service teachers across three European countries. The study was conducted via an online survey and yielded 1,131 responses from pre-service teachers in Malta, Norway, and Spain. The facets of cyberethics included in this study focused on behaving responsibly online, safeguarding privacy, respecting copyright, seeking consent of friends before posting images or videos on social media platforms, and considering their professional identity as future teachers when posting online. The findings indicate that pre-service teachers reported relatively similar levels of competence in applying copyright and respecting privacy r…
WhatsApp Messenger use in oncology: a narrative review on pros and contras of a flexible and practical, non-specific communication tool.
2021
The spread of instant messenger systems provides an excellent opportunity and a helpful tool to healthcare professionals. WhatsApp instant messenger use is widely prevalent among health professionals, cancer patients, caregivers and the general population. It is a quick and easy communication tool that may also be used on personal computers and business purposes. WhatsApp instant messenger and other similar tools may be a very useful complement for e-medicine. Instant messaging systems may be helpful, especially in rural areas, in medium- or low-income countries, or to avoid unnecessary travels, improve knowledge and awareness of cancer, monitor home care and support the delivery of home ca…

Experiences from Software Maintenance Seminars: Organizing Three Seminars with 127 Groups
2009
Software maintenance and evolution (SME) is an important but problematic topic-area for university-level computer science education. Seminars can be used to provide versatile and up-to-date knowledge for students regarding scientifically relevant issues. We have organized three systematic university-level seminars on SME with a total of 127 seminar groups. Each group has been assigned a task of analyzing one scientific SME-article. The main results include the general confirmed feasibility of the selected seminar-based approach. The paper describes the background of the seminars, their contents, and experiences concerning organization and feasibility of the seminars. The results support org…
2018
Education and vocational training are central institutions in today’s society. They play an important role in guaranteeing people’s social and professional integration. They are also considered strategic pillars of economic growth in “the knowledge society” (CE, 2000). However, despite their basis in democratic values and principles, there are still many inequalities in access and outcomes in both compulsory academic and vocational education. Moreover, because of the increasing flexibility and insecurity of work in the current labor market, a diploma is a necessary, but not sufficient, condition for stable employment. In this context, the rise of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) raises qu…
