Teachers' Professional Identity Negotiations in Two Different Work Organisations

Recent studies have described professional identity as the interplay between individual agency and social context. However, we need to understand how these are intertwined in different kinds of work settings. This paper focuses on teachers’ professional identity negotiations as involving the work organisation, the professional community and individual agency. The data were gathered from two work organisations representing different management cultures and sources of control over teachers’ work. This paper presents a Glaserian grounded theory study of adult students’ holistic professional growth in a two-year tailored, work-related, teacher qualification program in physical education. The data consisted of reflective learning diaries, interviews and the written texts of 20 adult students. The data analysis followed the stages of Glaserian grounded theory analysis with substantive and theoretical coding processes carried out using the constant comparative method. Tutkimuksessa keskityttiin erityisesti verkko- opettajan roolin ja tehtävien tarkasteluun. Verkko-opetusta tutkittiin osana opetus-opiskelu-oppiminen prosessia (Uljens 1997, Kansanen 1999). Šī pētījuma mērķis bija analizēt lingvistiskās un paralingvistiskās iezīmes sociālo tīklu tīmekļa vietnēs Facebook un Twitter publicētajās aviokompāniju reklāmās. Pētījums tika balstīts uz Kuka (Cook, 1992) piedāvāto diskursa analīzes modeli, kas ietver teksta un konteksta analīzi. Alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) and primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) are underdiagnosed rare diseases showing a median diagnostic delay of five to ten years, which has negative effects on patient prognosis. Lack of awareness and education among healthcare professionals involved in the management of these patients have been suggested as possible causes. Our aim was to assess knowledge of these diseases among paediatricians and medical school students to determine which knowledge areas are most deficient.
