Enhanced Quadrupole and Octupole Strength in Doubly Magic Sn132

2018

The first 2+ and 3- states of the doubly magic nucleus Sn132 are populated via safe Coulomb excitation employing the recently commissioned HIE-ISOLDE accelerator at CERN in conjunction with the highly efficient MINIBALL array. The Sn132 ions are accelerated to an energy of 5.49 MeV/nucleon and impinged on a Pb206 target. Deexciting γ rays from the low-lying excited states of the target and the projectile are recorded in coincidence with scattered particles. The reduced transition strengths are determined for the transitions 0g.s.+→21+, 0g.s.+→31-, and 21+→31- in Sn132. The results on these states provide crucial information on cross-shell configurations which are determined within large-sca…

Projection-invariant pattern recognition with a phase-only logarithmic-harmonic-derived filter.

2010

A phase-only filter based on logarithmic harmonics for projection-invariant pattern recognition is presented. This logarithmic-harmonic-derived filter is directly calculated in the Fourier plane. With respect to normal logarithmic-harmonic filters it provides a smaller variation of the correlation intensity with the projection factor of the target. Computer and optical experiments are presented.

Production and decay of269110

1995

In an experiment carried out to identify element 110, we have observed anα-decay chain, that can be unambiguously assigned to269110. In a scries of preexperiments the excitation functions of the fusion reactions50Ti +208Pb→258104* and58Fe +208Pb→266108* were measured with high precision in order to get the optimum projectile energies for the production of these heavy elements. The cross-section maxima of the 1n evaporation channels were observed at excitation energies of 15.6 MeV and 13.4 MeV, respectively. These data result in an optimum excitation energy of 12.3 MeV of the compound nucleus for the production of269110 in the reaction62Ni +208Pb→269110 + 1n. In irradiations at the correspon…

The c-map on groups

2019

We study the projective special Kaehler condition on groups, providing an intrinsic definition of homogeneous projective special Kaehler that includes the previously known examples. We give intrinsic defining equations that may be used without resorting to computations in the special cone, and emphasise certain associated integrability equations. The definition is shown to have the property that the image of such structures under the c-map is necessarily a left-invariant quaternionic Kaehler structure on a Lie group.

Physical interpretation of laser phase dynamics

1990

The basic features characterizing the dynamical evolution of the phase of a detuned-laser field under an unstable regime are physically interpreted in terms of dispersive and dynamical effects. A general method for obtaining any attractor projection containing the phase information is established, which provides evidence for the heteroclinic character of the attractor in the presence of cavity detuning for any emission regime.

Pattern projection for subpixel resolved imaging in microscopy.

2006

In this paper, we present a new approach providing super resolved images exceeding the geometrical limitation given by the detector pixel size of the imaging camera. The concept involves the projection of periodic patterns on top of the sample, which are then investigated under a microscope. Combining spatial scanning together with proper digital post-processing algorithm yields the improved geometrical resolution enhancement. This new method is especially interesting for microscopic imaging when the resolution of the detector is lower than the resolution due to diffraction.

Extinction law classification and lens redshift estimate by means of the principal component analysis

2007

Aims. We propose a method based on the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to classify and estimate the redshift of an extinction law in a distant gravitational lens galaxy. Such extinction laws are very poorly known and an efficient method to characterize them is badly needed. Methods. We first compute the principal axes of an exhaustive collection of redshifted theoretical extinction laws. Then, we project on these new axes the extinction law we wish to classify. The position of its projection among those redshifted extinction laws from the collection allows us to characterize it and to estimate its redshift. Results. Monte Carlo simulations show that the method is efficient and relatively…

Projectile coulomb excitation with fast radioactive beams

1995

We report a search for gamma rays emanating from Coulomb excitation of fast (30-46 MeV/u) radioactive projectiles He-8, Be-11,Be-12,Be-14 interacting with a lead target. These are clearly identified by their Doppler shift. The 320 keV 1/2(-) --> 1/2(+)gamma transition from Be-11 was observed with a cross-section of 191 +/- 26 mb which is noticeably less than expected from the known lifetime and in the perturbation limit of pure Coulomb excitation. In the other nuclei rather stringent upper limits of 0.01 to 0.2 Weisskopf units, are placed on the hypothetical transition to 1(-) states.

THE FASTBUS READ-OUT SYSTEM FOR THE ALEPH TIME PROJECTION CHAMBER

1989

The readout system for the Aleph central tracking detector, a large time projection chamber (TPC), consists of more than 100 FASTBUS crates with approximately 1000 FASTBUS modules. The detector and its associated electronics are briefly presented, followed by a more detailed description of the readout and control system. The discussion covers the sector readout, electronics calibration, front-end data acquisition, data pipelining, and service request handling. Experiences with the system are discussed. >
