Decacyclene as complexation manifold: synthesis, structure and properties of its Fe2 and Fe4 slipped triple-decker complexes.

Reaction of [(eta(5)-Me4EtC5)Fe(II)Cl(tmeda)] (tmeda = N,N,N'N'-tetramethylethylenediamine) with a polyanion solution of decacyclene (1) results in the formation of the triple-deckers [{(eta(5)-Me4EtC5)Fe}2-mu2-(eta(6):eta(6)-decacyclene)] (3) and [{(eta(5)-Me4EtC5)Fe}4-mu4-(eta(6):eta(6):eta(6):eta(6)-decacyclene)] (4). Metal complexation in 3 and 4 occurs on opposite faces of the pi perimeter in an alternating mode. The decacyclene ring adopts a gently twisted molecular propeller geometry with twofold crystallographic symmetry (C2). A PROCEDURE FOR THE EVALUATION OF INSTALLED PROPELLER NOISE

Abstract A method for the prediction of the acoustics of a propeller in the flow-field of a wing is presented. The method is used to study the noise generated by the unsteady loading induced on the propeller as it passes through the wing flow-field. Both the aerodynamic and acoustic methods are previously proven techniques, the aerodynamic method being based on a combination of free wake analysis and a three-dimensional boundary element method, while the acoustic calculation is a full-surface, moving medium form of the Ffowcs Williams–Hawkings equation. Oscillation dynamics of free vortex surface in uncovered unbaffled stirred vessels

Abstract The main feature of unbaffled stirred tanks is the highly swirling liquid motion, which leads to the formation of a central vortex on the liquid free surface, when the vessel is operated without top-cover (Uncovered Unbaffled Stirred Tanks, UUST). One of the main drawbacks of such vessels, that limits their industrial applicability, is the possible onset of low-frequency sloshing of the free surface. On the induced drag reduction due to propeller-wing interaction

AbstractThe aerodynamic interaction between a wing and a couple of propellers in tractor configuration is investigated by means of a model based on the lifting line concept and under the assumption of quasi-steady incompressible motion of inviscid fluid. The ways the propellers influence the wing performances, particularly the induced drag, are analysed. It turns out that the lift increase and the possible drag reduction depend strongly on the direction of the blade rotation and on the propeller distances from midspan, and result from two main effects: the direct propeller induction on the wing and the modification of the lift distribution along the span. Different Wings Flowfields Interaction on the Wing-Propeller Coupling

A high-portability numerical technique based on the method of free wake analysis (FWA) is described that analyzes the interference between an aircraft propeller and a wing having different planforms and computes the influence of the wing aerodynamic field on the propeller performance. For an isolated propeller and wing, the models employed are based on the FWA and Prandtl theory, respectively. The performance of the propeller in the presence of the wing is related to the wing angle of attack and to the variation of wing circulation and the corresponding induced velocity at the propeller disk. A Propeller Flap for Single-Stage Nose Reconstruction in Selected Patients: Supratrochlear Artery Axial Propeller Flap

The paramedian forehead flap is the gold standard technique for nose reconstruction. It requires two different surgical operations which prolonged the postoperative dressing and care. We present our 5-year experience with a propeller flap based on the supratrochlear artery, which allows one-stage transfer of the forehead skin to the nose without the need for pedicle division. This technique is indicated in a selected group of patients who are not suitable for multiple-stage reconstructions because they have concurrent medical conditions, reduced mobility, or live far away from specialized medical centers.
