Thermodynamics of Solubilization of Pentanol in Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate-Dodecyldimethylamine Oxide Mixed Micelles

Abstract Heat capacity and density measurements of pentanol (PeOH)-sodium dodecyl sulfate (NaDS)-dodecyldimethylamine oxide-water mixtures were carried out at 0.03 m PeOH as a function of the total surfactants concentration (mc) at different ratios (XNaDS). From experimental data, the apparent molar volumes (VΦ,R) and heat capacities (CΦ,R) of PeOH in the surfactants mixture solutions were calculated. As a general feature, at a given mixture composition, VΦ,R increases monotonically with mt as observed in pure surfactants. In the cases of XNaDS = 0.1 and 0.3, VΦ,R drops at about 0.1 and 0.15 mt respectively. The decreasing CΦ,R VS mt curve shows peculiarities which were ascribed to the pres…

Apparent molar volumes of lithium nitrate in 1-propanol + water in the temperature range from 288.15 to 318.15 K

Abstract Densities of 1-propanol+water+lithium chloride mixtures have been measured with an oscillating-tube densimeter over a large range of concentrations of the salt and 1-propanol at 288.15, 298.15, 308.15, and 318.15 K. From these densities, apparent molar volumes of lithium chloride in 1-propanol+water mixtures have been calculated for each temperature, and apparent molar volumes at infinite dilution have been evaluated. An empirical correlation for partial molar volumes of lithium chloride in 1-propanol+water mixtures with solvent composition and temperature has been derived.

Academic research on newly discovered ancient Buddhist manuscripts is largely based on objects that come from the antiquities market and to a much lesser degree on objects coming from documented and controlled archaeological excavations. Despite their being unprovenanced, collectors and scholars often present such objects with narratives mimicking provenance. An associative link from geometric to symbolic representations in artificial vision

Recent approaches to modelling the reference of internal symbolic representations of intelligent systems suggest to consider a computational level of a subsymbolic kind. In this paper the integration between symbolic and subsymbolic processing is approached in the framework of the research work currently carried on by the authors in the field of artificial vision. An associative mapping mechanism is defined in order to relate the constructs of the symbolic representation to a geometric model of the observed scene.

State classification for autonomous gas sample taking using deep convolutional neural networks

Despite recent rapid advances and successful large-scale application of deep Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) using image, video, sound, text and time-series data, its adoption within the oil and gas industry in particular have been sparse. In this paper, we initially present an overview of opportunities for deep CNN methods within oil and gas industry, followed by details on a novel development where deep CNN have been used for state classification of autonomous gas sample taking procedure utilizing an industrial robot. We propose three high level structural principles of neural networks in the vertebrate visual cortex and discuss some of their computational implications for early vision: a) Lamination, average axonal and dendritic domains, and intrinsic feedback determine the spatio-temporal interactions in cortical processing. Internal Simulation of an Agent’s Intentions

We present the Associative Self-Organizing Map (A-SOM) and propose that it could be used to predict an agent’s intentions by internally simulating the behaviour likely to follow initial movements. The A-SOM is a neural network that develops a representation of its input space without supervision, while simultaneously learning to associate its activity with an arbitrary number of additional (possibly delayed) inputs. We argue that the A-SOM would be suitable for the prediction of the likely continuation of the perceived behaviour of an agent by learning to associate activity patterns over time, and thus a way to read its intentions.

Origin of atmospheric aerosols at the Pierre Auger Observatory using studies of air mass trajectories in South America

The Pierre Auger Observatory is making significant contributions towards understanding the nature and origin of ultra-high energy cosmic rays. One of its main challenges is the monitoring of the atmosphere, both in terms of its state variables and its optical properties. The aim of this work is to analyze aerosol optical depth $\tau_{\rm a}(z)$ values measured from 2004 to 2012 at the observatory, which is located in a remote and relatively unstudied area of the Pampa Amarilla, Argentina.
