Deep Learning Network for Segmentation of the Prostate Gland With Median Lobe Enlargement in T2-weighted MR Images: Comparison With Manual Segmentati…
2021
Purpose: Aim of this study was to evaluate a fully automated deep learning network named Efficient Neural Network (ENet) for segmentation of prostate gland with median lobe enlargement compared to manual segmentation. Materials and Methods: One-hundred-three patients with median lobe enlargement on prostate MRI were retrospectively included. Ellipsoid formula, manual segmentation and automatic segmentation were used for prostate volume estimation using T2 weighted MRI images. ENet was used for automatic segmentation; it is a deep learning network developed for fast inference and high accuracy in augmented reality and automotive scenarios. Student t-test was performed to compare prostate vol…
Computer-aided diagnosis system for characterizing ISUP grade≥2 prostate cancers at multiparametric MRI: A cross-vendor evaluation.
2019
International audience; Purpose: To assess the performance of a computer-aided diagnosis (CADx) system trained at characterizing International Society of Urological Pathology (ISUP) grade >= 2 peripheral zone (PZ) prostate cancers on multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) examinations from a different institution and acquired on different scanners than those used for the training database.Patients and methods: Preoperative mpMRIs of 74 men (median age, 65.7 years) treated by prostatectomy between 2014 and 2017 were retrospectively selected. One radiologist outlined suspicious lesions and scored them using Prostate Imaging-Reporting and Data System version 2 (PI-RADSv2); their CA…
Automatic classification of tissues on pelvic MRI based on relaxation times and support vector machine
2019
International audience; Tissue segmentation and classification in MRI is a challenging task due to a lack of signal intensity standardization. MRI signal is dependent on the acquisition protocol, the coil profile, the scanner type, etc. While we can compute quantitative physical tissue properties independent of the hardware and the sequence parameters, it is still difficult to leverage these physical properties to segment and classify pelvic tissues. The proposed method integrates quantitative MRI values (T1 and T2 relaxation times and pure synthetic weighted images) and machine learning (Support Vector Machine (SVM)) to segment and classify tissues in the pelvic region, i.e.: fat, muscle, …
Cryopreservation of prostate cancer tissue during routine processing of fresh unfixed prostatectomy specimen: demonstration and validation of a new t…
2008
BACKGROUND Most molecular techniques currently require fresh frozen tumor tissue, which in the case of prostatectomy specimen is a challenge to obtain for a variety of intrinsic reasons. Prostate cancers are usually located in the organ periphery and hence meticulous attention has to be paid to the relation between the tumor and the surgical margin. In this article we describe a new technique that allows to obtain fresh frozen tumor material in rather large quantities and without jeopardizing diagnostic accuracy. METHOD An inner triangle, representing roughly 50% of the entire prostate tissue, is removed from native prostatectomy specimen and cryopreserved, leaving the periphery of the orga…
Use of Solovov-Badenoch principle in treating severe and recurrent vesico-urethral anastomosis stricture after radical retropubic prostatectomy: tech…
2012
What's known on the subject? and What does the study add? Many different approaches have been used to treat bladder neck strictures and urinary incontinence after radical prostatectomy in the past. Most techniques are highly invasive and carry a high risk of complications. The present study describes the use of the Solovov-Badenoch 'pull-through urethroplasty' as well as artificial urinary sphincter implantation.• To report our experience in the management of patients with combined urinary incontinence and stricture after radical prostatectomy with a two-step approach: urethroplasty with a 'pull-through' technique after the Solovov-Badenoch principle; and artificial urinary sphincter (AUS) …
Towards the potential use of (1)H NMR spectroscopy in urine samples for prostate cancer detection
2014
A simple method based in multivariate analysis of 1H NMR spectra profiles of urine samples can be used to detect patients with prostate cancer.
AR-V7 Protein Expression in Circulating Tumour Cells Is Not Predictive of Treatment Response in mCRPC
2019
Introduction: Androgen receptor variant 7 (AR-V7) plays an important role in the progression of castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) and has shown potential as a predictive biomarker in circulating tumour cells (CTCs) isolated from the bloodstream in terms of a liquid biopsy. Studies have shown that AR-V7 is a potential surrogate for selecting drug classes for systemic treatment by detecting nuclear AR-V7 by immunofluorescence or measuring AR-V7 messenger RNA by quantitative PCR. Here, we assessed the predictive value of AR-V7 detected by classical immunohistochemistry (IHC) for treatment response. Methods: C…
The Impact of 68Ga-PSMA PET/CT and PET/MRI on the Management of Prostate Cancer.
2018
Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) is a transmembrane protein with significantly increased expression in the cells and metastases of prostate carcinoma (CaP). PSMA-expression correlates with higher serum levels of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) and a higher Gleason score (GS). This finding has led to the development of novel imaging modalities such as 68Ga-/18F-labeled PSMA positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) and positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance imaging (PET/MRI). This article reviews the literature pertaining to various new imaging technologies for the management of CaP. PSMA positron emission tomography/computed tomography appears to be an exce…
Multicenter Multireader Evaluation of an Artificial Intelligence-Based Attention Mapping System for the Detection of Prostate Cancer With Multiparame…
2020
OBJECTIVE. The purpose of this study was to evaluate in a multicenter dataset the performance of an artificial intelligence (AI) detection system with attention mapping compared with multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) interpretation in the detection of prostate cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS. MRI examinations from five institutions were included in this study and were evaluated by nine readers. In the first round, readers evaluated mpMRI studies using the Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System version 2. After 4 weeks, images were again presented to readers along with the AI-based detection system output. Readers accepted or rejected lesions within four AI-generated attention map boxes. Additio…
ProstateAnalyzer: web-based medical application for the management of prostate cancer using multiparametric MR imaging
2016
Objectives: In this paper, we present ProstateAnalyzer, a new web-based medical tool for prostate cancer diagnosis. ProstateAnalyzer allows the visualization and analysis of magnetic resonance images (MRI) in a single framework. Methods: ProstateAnalyzer recovers the data from a PACS server and displays all the associated MRI images in the same framework, usually consisting of 3D T2-weighted imaging for anatomy, dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI for perfusion, diffusion-weighted imaging in the form of an apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) map and MR Spectroscopy. ProstateAnalyzer allows annotating regions of interest in a sequence and propagates them to the others. Results: From a representat…
