Closed foldable capsular rings

A new foldable capsular tension and bending ring system with a sharp-edged design is described. The closed foldable capsular rings (CFCR) consist of 8 hydrophobic and 8 hydrophilic ring segments. The CFCRs have a 9.2 mm minimum overall diameter. The CFCRs were inserted using various cartridge systems or a two-folded technique with a forceps. The CFCRs were implanted after phacoemulsification through a small (1.6 to 3.2 mm) incision in 104 human adult eyes without intraoperative complications. No postoperative complications such as capsule folds or inward bending were observed over a 6-month follow-up. Posterior capsule opacification was minimal or absent in all eyes.

Background The management of early-onset scoliosis (EOS) remains a serious challenge in pediatric orthopedics. The growth-guidance system (GGS) is a surgical option that allows continuous growth along a rod, averting the need for repeated operative lengthening. Objectives The objective of this study was to evaluate the outcomes of the GGS in the treatment of EOS. Material and methods A prospective study, including 81 patients from 4 departments treated with this method from 2013 to 2015, was conducted with a minimum follow-up period of 24 months. Cobalt-based materials are widely used for coronary stents, as well as bone and joint implants. However, their use is associated with high corrosion incidence. Titanium alloys, by contrast, are more biocompatible owing to the formation of a relatively inactive titanium oxide (TiO 2 ) layer on their surface. Purpose: To evaluate the visual quality results when fitting a corneo-scleral contact lens (CScL) after intracorneal ring segment (ICRS) implantation for keratoconus management. Methods: Twenty-seven eyes of 27 patients with keratoconus underwent ICRS implantation and had CScL fitted as their visual quality was unsatisfactory with their spectacles or contact lenses. A silicone penile prosthesis in which silver wires are embedded to allow for voluntary bending of the penis for urination and resting position and for straightening for intercourse is described. The implantation is done via a hemicircular incision on the dorsum of the penis in the sulcus coronarius. Buck's fascia is identified and opened, and the corpora are dilated up to 30F.
