Five-Year Study of Implant Placement in Regenerated Bone and Rehabilitation With Telescopic Crown Retained Dentures: A Case Report

2009

Abstract Various implant-supported restorations have been used successfully for several decades to rehabilitate edentulous patients. Telescopic crowns are a common treatment modality used to connect dentures to natural teeth. Although previous findings indicate that telescopic crowns can be placed successfully on implants to support overdentures, only limited data are available on this treatment approach. Eight months after extraction of all nonsalvageable teeth and socket preservation, 11 implants were inserted into the mandible and maxillae of one patient. These implants were restored 4 months later using telescopic crown–supported dentures. Bleeding on probing (BOP), plaque index (PI), c…

Soft and hard tissue alterations around implants placed in an alveolar ridge with a sloped configuration.

2012

Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate soft and hard tissue alterations around implants placed in healed, sloped ridge sites. Materials and methods: In this prospective multi-center study, 65 patients between 20 and 74 years of age and with a need for a single tooth replacement were included. All patients presented with a recipient implant site demonstrating a lingual‐buccal bone height discrepancy of 2.0‐5.0 mm and with a neighboring tooth on its mesial aspect. Implant placement (OsseoSpeed Profile implants; Astra Tech AB, M! olndal, Sweden) was performed using a non-submerged installation procedure. The implants were placed in such a way that the sloped part of the device was located …

Masticatory muscle activity evaluation by electromyography in subjects with zygomatic implants

2017

Background Zygomatic implants are an alternative treatment in the rehabilitation of atrophic maxilla to promote stability in the stomatognathic system. The aim of this study was to compare the electromyographic (EMG) activity of masseter and temporalis muscles in controls and in individuals with complete implant-supported dentures anchored in the zygomatic bone. Material and Methods Fifty-four volunteers of both genders (mean age 52.5 years) were selected and distributed into two groups: Individuals with zygomatic implant (ZIG; n=27) and fully dentate patients (CG; n=27). MyoSystem-BR1 was used to assess masseter and temporalis muscles EMG activity in different mandibular movements: protrus…

Fixed rehabilitation of a patient with hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia using zygomatic implants

2004

We found few references in the dental literature on implant rehabilitation of patients with hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia and only 1 case on zygomatic fixations and maxillary prosthesis in a patient with hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia. Two zygomatic fixations were placed according to the sinus slot technique, together with 3 implants in the anterior maxillary region. After 6 months, an upper complete prosthesis was screwed onto the implants, and lower overdentures were placed over the remnant canines. After 18 months of follow-up the patient reported important improvement in oral function and self-esteem.

Tension-free hernia repair is associated with an increase in inflammatory response markers against the mesh.

2000

Abstract Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the involvement of inflammatory mediators in patients undergoing Lichtenstein tension-free hernioplasty (LH) using polypropylene prosthetic materials or conventional Bassini hernia repair (BH). Methods: Thirty patients male with unilateral inguinal hernia without complications or recurrence were included in this study. Randomly, patients underwent LH or BH. Peripheral venous bloods samples were collected 24 hours prior to surgery and then 6, 24, 48 and 168 hours postoperatively. Results: We present evidences that LH patients showed a higher increased serum level of fibrinogen, C-reactive protein, alpha-1-antitrypsin, and interle…

Does Apico-Coronal Implant Position Influence Peri-Implant Marginal Bone Loss? A 36-Month Follow-Up Randomized Clinical Trial

2019

Purpose Preserving peri-implant bone and reducing exposure of the rough implant surface might influence long-term outcomes of implant therapy. The aim of this study was to compare peri-implant clinical and radiologic parameters after crestal and subcrestal dental implant placement at 36 months' follow-up. Materials and Methods We carried out a randomized clinical trial involving partially edentulous patients in need of an implant-supported, partial fixed dental prosthesis or a single crown. Patients were randomized according to the implant insertion depth: implants placed approximately 2 mm below the bone crest (test group) or implants placed at bone crest level (control group). They were e…

Mid- to Long-Term Outcome of Cementless Total Hip Arthroplasty in Younger Patients

2010

Purpose. To assess mid- to long-term outcomes of cementless primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) in younger patients. Methods. Records of 28 women and 34 men (75 hips) aged 18 to 55 (mean, 38) years who underwent primary THA using a hydroxyapatite-coated stem and a threaded cup and had been followed up for a mean of 10 (6–15) years were reviewed. 13 of the patients had bilateral THAs. Clinical and radiographic outcomes were evaluated. Results. After a minimum follow-up of 7 (range, 7–14) years, 12 (16%) of the hips were revised, of which 8 (11%) were for the cup. The causes for revision were late deep infections (n=2), aseptic loosening of the cup (n=4), and polyethylene wear (n=6). No stem…

Influence of optic quality on contrast sensitivity and visual acuity in eyes with a rigid or flexible phakic intraocular lens

2009

Purpose To determine whether the difference in optic quality between 2 types of phakic intraocular lenses (pIOLs) affects visual quality. Setting Fundacion Oftalmologica del Mediterraneo, Valencia, Spain. Methods Before implantation of a pIOL for myopia, all eyes had an examination including corrected (CDVA) and uncorrected (UDVA) distance visual acuity testing, corneal endothelial cell count (ECC), and intraocular pressure (IOP) measurement. The postoperative outcomes, determined at least 1 year after surgery, were CDVA; UDVA; contrast sensitivity function under photopic, mesopic, and mesopic with glare conditions; ECC; IOP; keratometry (Scheimpflug photography); and total ocular aberratio…

Peri‐implant marginal bone loss reduction with platform‐switching components: 5‐Year post‐loading results of an equivalence randomized clinical trial

2019

Abstract Aim To compare the clinical performance and marginal bone levels of implants restored with platform‐switching (PS) or platform‐matching (PM) abutments. Materials and Methods Adult patients missing two or more adjacent teeth in the posterior mandible received 2–4 CAMLOG SCREW‐LINE implants and were randomly allocated to the PM or PS group, receiving the corresponding prosthetic components from surgery onwards. Implants were conventionally loaded with single cemented crowns. Patients were followed annually for 5 years. Outcome measures were marginal bone level changes, implant survival, performance of the prosthetic components and clinical parameters plaque index, sulcus bleeding ind…

Speech perception performance as a function of stimulus pulse rate and processing strategy preference for the Cochlear™ Nucleus®CI24RE device: Relati…

2010

Current cochlear implants can operate at high pulse rates. The effect of increasing pulse rate on speech performance is not yet clear. Habituation to low rates may affect the outcome. This paper presents the results of three subsequent studies using different experimental paradigms, applying the Nucleus CI24RE device, and conducted by ten European implant teams. Pulse rate per channel varied from 500 to 3500 pulses per second with ACE and from 1200 to 3500 pps with CIS strategy. The results showed that the first rate presented had little effect on the finally preferred rate. Lower rates were preferred. The effect of pulse rate on word scores of post-linguistic implantees was small; high rat…
