Aims: The aim of the study was to develop a scoring model to evaluate the quality of bioresorbable vascular scaffold (BVS) implantation and determine the model's usefulness in predicting adverse cardiac events. Methods and results: The implantation technique and clinical outcomes of 1,736 lesions treated with BVS were analysed using the GHOST-EU registry. Predilation, scaffold sizing, and post-dilation (PSP) were scored according to the hazard model derived from the weight of these variables. The Patellofemoral Arthroplasty: The Great Solution, the Great Problem

Unfortunately, many orthopedic surgeons believe that the definite solution for eliminating anterior knee pain in a young patient with multiple operations is the patellofemoral prosthesis (“The Great Solution”). But, they fail to ask themselves the most important question; what is causing the pain? When a patellofemoral prosthesis is implanted in these young patients without finding out the cause of the pain, a more serious problem could be created with a worse solution (“The Great Problem”). The cases we present spotlight this abuse.

Successful cell-based tissue engineering requires a rapid and thorough vascularization in order to ensure long-term implant survival and tissue integration. The vascularization of a scaffold is a complex process, and is modulated by the presence of transplanted cells, exogenous and endogenous signaling proteins, and the host tissue reaction, among other influencing factors. Analysis of the possible benefits of aspheric intraocular lenses: review of the literature.

We reviewed recently published studies that analyzed the visual and optical quality in eyes with different spherical and aspheric intraocular lenses (IOLs). Recent studies focused on visual quality metrics, such as visual acuity and contrast sensitivity, under photopic and mesopic lighting conditions and optical metrics, such as wavefront aberrations, especially spherical aberration. The results in this review were used in an attempt to understand whether there is a visual and/or optical benefit of implanting aspheric IOLs over implanting spherical IOLs.

In vitro optical performance of a new aberration-free intraocular lens

To assess the optical performance of the new EnVista intraocular lens (IOL). Four aspheric IOLs were evaluated; the new EnVista is one amoung them. This IOL, similarly to the Z-Flex HB and the Bi-Flex 1.8 667AB ones, has a neutral aspheric design, whereas the fourth IOL under test (AcrySof IQ IOL SN60WF) presents a negative spherical aberration (SA).
