Retrospective Analysis of Whole-Body Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Bone Manifestations in Long-Term Treated Patients with Gaucher Disease Type 1

We retrospectively assessed bone and visceral manifestations in patients with Gaucher disease type 1 (GD1) with whole-body magnetic resonance imaging (WB-MRI) to determine the effects of different timing in initiating long-term enzyme replacement therapy.In 17 patients with GD1, we performed 2 WB-MRI examinations at a median interval of 13 months. Patients had received enzyme replacement therapy with alglucerase/imiglucerase for a median of 13 years prior to the first examination. CRP-induced levels of oxidative stress are higher in brain than aortic endothelial cells

C-reactive protein (CRP) has been demonstrated to induce blood-brain barrier disruption (BBB) involving NAD(P)H-oxidase dependent oxidative stress. It is unclear why CRP affects the BBB and not other vascular beds following stroke. Therefore we examined CRP receptor and NAD(P)H-oxidase expression levels in bovine brain- (BEC) and aortic endothelial cells. Dichlorodihydrofluorescein measurements revealed significantly higher CRP-induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels in BEC. Protein expression of the CRP-receptors CD16, CD32 and of the NAD(P)H-oxidase subunit p22phox were also significantly higher in BEC. An alternative role of C1q in cell migration and tissue remodeling: contribution to trophoblast invasion and placental development.

Abstract Fetal trophoblast cells invading the decidua in the early phase of pregnancy establish complex interaction with the maternal extracellular matrix. We discovered that C1q was widely distributed in human decidual stroma in the absence of C4 and C3 and was actively synthesized by migrating extravillous trophoblasts. The cells expressed the messages for the three chains of C1q and secreted this complement component that interacted with the proteins of the decidual extracellular matrix. Glycosaminoglycan (GAG) accumulation in the retrobulbar space of patients with thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO) has been documented in a number of immunohistochemical studies. In order to gain further insight into possible immunopathogenic mechanisms, the influence of humoral immunity on retrobulbar fibroblasts (RF) as GAG producing cells as well as on GAGs themselves was investigated. BACKGROUND Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is a rare, episodic clinical syndrome involving the production of thrombi in the microvasculature accompanied by thrombocytopenia and symptoms of organ ischemia. Psychophysical and electrofunctional contrast sensitivity in cataractous patients treated with bendazac-lysine salt

The clinical progression of the cataract may be influenced by drugs which reduce the denaturation of lens proteins. One of the most promising drugs is the bendazac-lysine salt. The drug was used in a double-blind study of a group of patients with initial cortical cataract in order to evaluate the changes in visual acuity and contrast sensitivity by means of a psychophysical and an electrophysiological method.
