Replacement Therapy for Surgery in FVII Deficiency: The Ster Experience Concerning 63 Interventions.

2009

Abstract Abstract 1290 Poster Board I-312 Background Excessive bleeding represents a major complication of surgical interventions, and its control is especially relevant in patients with Congenital Bleeding Disorders. In FVII deficiency, scanty data is available in surgery to guide treatment strategies. Methods The STER (Seven Treatment Evaluation Registry) is a multi-centre, prospective, observational, web-based registry providing the frame for an extensive and structured data collection. Results As of Dec. 2008, sixty-three surgical operations (36 “major” and 27 “minor”) were performed in 54 subjects (29 females and 25 males) with a FVII deficiency (31 previously symptomatic; 9 with FVIIc…

Darstellung und Reaktionen von 2-Methylen-canrenon

1995

Effects of repeated treatments with an extract ofGinkgo biloba (EGb 761) and bilobalide on liver and muscle glycogen contents in the non-insulin-depe…

1997

The effects of repeated (15-day) oral treatments with an extract of Ginkgo biloba (EGb 761; 50 mg/kg/day) or with its terpenoid constituent, bilobalide (2 mg/kg/day), were assessed in normal rats and in rats that had been previously injected with streptozotocin (50 mg/kg, i.p. in saline solution), a dose which provided a model of non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM). In this model of diabetes, blood glucose is significantly increased while the circulating insulin level remains unchanged. Glucose penetrates cells because of decreased glycogen turnover, a metabolic abnormality that can be revealed by using an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). In control rats, hyperglycemia was ac…

Effects of repeated treatments with an extract ofGinkgo biloba (EGb 761) and bilobalide on glucose uptake and glycogen synthesis in rat erythrocytes:…

1994

The metabolic action of an extract of Ginkgo biloba (EGb 761) has been examined in an ex vivo study of rat erythrocytes. Oral administration of EGb 761 (100 mg/kg/day) for 5 days to Wistar rats caused an increase in the in vitro uptake of glucose by erythrocytes, especially in high-glucose (13.32 mM) medium, an effect that was associated with an increase in intracellular energy metabolism and reflected as a significant reduction in free glucose concentration. In contrast, the lactate concentration of the erythrocytes and lactate release to the bathing medium were not modified. Conversion of glucose into glycogen was significantly increased in the erythrocytes of EGb 761-treated animals. Tak…

Cardiovascular Risk Factors - Association with Lower Extremity Versus Coronary Artery Disease

2021

Abstract Atherosclerosis is the main cause of lower extremity artery disease (LEAD) and coronary artery disease (CAD). These two arterial territories share the major cardiovascular risk factors: smoking, hypertension, dyslipidaemia and diabetes. Current guidelines draw attention to other possible risk factors: homocysteine level, inflammation markers (e.g. high-sensitive C reactive-protein (CRP), interleukin 6) and chronic kidney disease (CKD.) The objective of this study was to evaluate the cardiovascular risk factors strength association with LEAD and CAD on a study population of 203 patients. Our study concluded that smoking seems to be the most powerful risk factor for LEAD, especially …

Receptor Recognition Sites of Cytokines Are Organized as Exchangeable Modules

1999

Interleukin-6 (IL-6) and ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF) are "4-helical bundle" cytokines of the IL-6 type family of neuropoietic and hematopoietic cytokines. IL-6 signals by induction of a gp130 homodimer (e.g. IL-6), whereas CNTF and leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) signal via a heterodimer of gp130 and LIF receptor (LIFR). Despite binding to the same receptor component (gp130) and a similar protein structure, IL-6 and CNTF share only 6% sequence identity. Using molecular modeling we defined a putative LIFR binding epitope on CNTF that consists of three distinct regions (C-terminal A-helix/N-terminal AB loop, BC loop, C-terminal CD-loop/N-terminal D-helix). A corresponding gp130-bindin…

MAGNESIUM METABOLISM IN INSULIN RESISTANCE, METABOLIC SYNDROME, AND TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS

2007

Magnesium plays a key role in regulating insulin action, insulin-mediated glucose uptake, and vascular tone. Intracellular magnesium depletion may result in a defective tyrosine—kinase activity at the insulin receptor level, in a postreceptorial impairment in insulin action, and clinically in a worsening of insulin resistance. Intra- and extracellular alterations of magnesium metabolism have been identified in clinical states characterized by insulin resistance, such as metabolic syndrome, hypertension, altered glucose tolerance, type 2 diabetes, and aging. Several studies, from our and other’s groups, have confi rmed the clinical relevance of alterations of magnesium homeostasis in these c…
