Use of neural networks for dosage individualisation of erythropoietin in patients with secondary anemia to chronic renal failure.

2003

The external administration of recombinant human erythropoietin is the chosen treatment for those patients with secondary anemia due to chronic renal failure undergoing periodic hemodialysis. The goal is to carry out an individualised prediction of the erythropoietin dosage to be administered. It is justified because of the high cost of this medication, its secondary effects and the phenomenon of potential resistance which some individuals suffer. One hundred and ten patients were included in this study and several factors were collected in order to develop the neural models. Since the results obtained were excellent, an easy-to-use decision-aid computer application was implemented.

2019

The main purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of frequency, thereby increasing training volume, of resistance training on body composition, inflammation markers, lipid and glycemic profile in healthy older individuals (age range 65-75 year). Ninety-two healthy participants were randomly assigned to one of four groups; performing strength training one- (EX1), two- (EX2), or three- (EX3) times-per-week and a non-training control (CON) group. Whole-body strength training was performed using 2-5 sets and 4-12 repetitions per exercise and 7-9 exercises per session. All training groups attended supervised resistance training for 6 months. Body composition was measured by dua…

P729PD-1/PD-L1 axis contributes to infarct size in ST elevation myocardial infarction

2014

Programmed death-1 (PD-1) and Programmed death-1 ligand (PD-L1) regulate immune response. Previous studies associate an immune deregulation in ST-elevation myocardial infarction STEMI. We recruited 100 patients with a first STEMI treated with reperfusion. In all patients PD-1 and PD-L1 expression was studied 24 h post-reperfusion in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), by means of flow cytometry and molecular biology. PD-1 and PD-L1 expression was serially analyzed in the first 20 patients before reperfusion and 24h, 96h and 30 days afterwards. Results were compared with 30 age- and sex-matched controls. Cardiac Magnetic Resonance was used to quantify infarct size 1-week after infarc…

Intravoxel incoherent motion derived liver perfusion/diffusion readouts can be reliable biomarker for the detection of viral hepatitis B induced live…

2019

Background: Recent two studies reported that intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) analysis can separate healthy livers and viral hepatitis B (VHB) induced liver fibrosis. However, in these two studies the starting b-value for bi-exponential decay analysis was b =10 and b =15 s/mm 2 respectively. The current study has two primary aims. The first is to further confirm the diagnostic value of IVIM in detecting liver fibrosis. The second is to test whether by sampling very low b-value densely, then b =0 s/mm 2 image could be included to improve IVIM’s diagnostic performance. Methods: This was a prospective study with data acquired at the Third Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, Changs…

PO-58 - Cardiovascular risk profile in survivors of adult cancer - results from the general population study.

2016

The advancements in cancer treatment and detection of early cancer have resulted in steady increase of adult cancer survivors over the years. However, due to the long term toxic effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, the incidence of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) is increasing in survivors. Identifying risk factors and interventions to reduce the excess burden of CVD in this vulnerable population is urgently needed. To investigate the cardiovascular risk factors (CVRFs), inflammation and coagulation profile in cancer survivors from a large population-based study.Presence of CVRFs and laboratory markers have been compared in individuals with (n=1,359) and without (n=13,626) history of canc…

Nitrate therapy: new aspects concerning molecular action and tolerance.

2011

Although the short-term vasodilatory properties of organic nitrates are potent and well known, a number of vascular and extravascular changes have been shown to compromise their hemodynamic effects on long-term administration. Among these changes, systemic phenomena such as neurohormonal activation and intravascular volume expansion1 as well as specific vascular changes such as increased vascular superoxide (O2·−) production,2 increased sensitivity to vasoconstrictors,3 and decreased responsiveness to nitric oxide (NO) donors4,5 have long been identified as playing a role. Several hypotheses have been proposed to explain these abnormalities, and over the last 15 years, our groups have focus…

Influence of blood sampling from venipunctures and catheter systems on serial determinations of prothrombin activation fragment 1 + 2 and thrombin-an…

1993

To evaluate the influence of different blood sampling techniques on test results of thrombin-antithrombin III complex (TAT) and prothrombin fragment 1 + 2 (F1 + 2) serial determinations were performed. In six groups of nonrandomized patients (ten patients each) the concentrations of the coagulation markers of blood samples from central catheters (internal jugular, caval, Shaldon, pulmonary artery) and peripheral cannulas (17G and 18G) were compared with those of blood samples obtained simultaneously from direct venipunctures of the contralateral arm. Medians and 25th-75th percentiles of TAT and F1 + 2 concentrations of plasmas obtained from central catheters were not different from those ta…

CA125 but not NT-proBNP predicts the presence of a congestive intrarenal venous flow in patients with acute heart failure

2021

Abstract Background Intrarenal venous flow (IRVF) measured by Doppler ultrasound has gained interest as a potential surrogate marker of renal congestion and adverse outcomes in heart failure. In this work, we aimed to determine if antigen carbohydrate 125 (CA125) and plasma amino-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) are associated with congestive IRVF patterns (i.e., biphasic and monophasic) in acute heart failure (AHF). Methods and results We prospectively enrolled a consecutive cohort of 70 patients hospitalized for AHF. Renal Doppler ultrasound was assessed within the first 24-h of hospital admission. The mean age of the sample was 73.5 ± 12.3 years; 47.1% were female, and…

The Clinical Relevance of LDL Size and Subclasses Modulation in Patients with Type-2 Diabetes

2007

increasing evidence suggest that the "quality" rather than only the "quantity" of low density lipoproteins (LDL) exerts a great influence on the cardiovascular risk. Hypertriglyceridemia, low HDL-cholesterol and increased levels of small dense LDL characterise diabetic dyslipidemia. in subjects with type-2 diabetes LDL size seems also to represent a good marker of clinical apparent and non-apparent atherosclerosis. Recently, the Coordinating Committee of the National Cholesterol Education Program stated that high-risk patients may benefit of stronger therapeutical approaches, a category of subjects that include those with type-2 diabetes. Screening for the presence of small, dense LDL may p…
