Technical Rules for Connecting PV Systems to the Distribution Grid: A Critical Comparison of the Italian and Vietnamese Frameworks

2018

In the last two decades, starting from the Kyoto protocol, decarbonization has promoted worldwide the rise of distributed generation from renewable energy sources. Currently, Vietnam is still showing a strong dependence on fossil fuels but with a great interest in investing in renewable, especially in photovoltaic (PV) systems. In this paper, the current Vietnamese technical and administrative framework for the connection of PV systems to the power grid is presented and critically compared to the Italian one, in order to define the bases for future cooperation in distributed generation and renewable sectors.

Robust Network Agreement on Logical Information

2011

Abstract Logical consensus is an approach to distributed decision making which is based on the availability of a network of agents with incomplete system knowledge. The method requires the construction of a Boolean map which defines a dynamic system allowing the entire network to consent on a unique, global decision. Previous work by the authors proved the method to be viable for applications such as intrusion detection within a structured environment, when the agent's communication topology is known in advance. The current work aims at providing a fully distributed protocol, requiring no a priori knowledge of each agent's communication neighbors. The protocol allows the construction of a r…

End-to-end congestion control protocols for remote programming of robots, using heterogeneous networks: A comparative analysis

2008

There are many interesting aspects of Internet Telerobotics within the network robotics context, such as variable bandwidth and time-delays. Some of these aspects have been treated in the literature from the control point of view. Moreover, only a little work is related to the way Internet protocols can help to minimize the effect of delay and bandwidth fluctuation on network robotics. In this paper, we present the capabilities of TCP, UDP, TCP Las Vegas, TEAR, and Trinomial protocols, when performing a remote experiment within a network robotics application, the UJI Industrial Telelaboratory. Comparative analysis is presented through simulations within the NS2 platform. Results show how th…

Security Assessment of a Distributed, Modbus-based Building Automation System

2017

Building automation systems were designed in an era when security was not a concern as the systems were closed from outside access. However, multiple benefits can be found in connecting such systems over the Internet and controlling a number of buildings from a single location. Security breaches towards building automation systems are increasing and may cause direct or indirect damages to the target organization or even the residents of the building. This work presents an approach to apply a method of data flow recognition and environment analysis to building automation through a case study on a distributed building automation system utilizing the Modbus protocol at the sites and presents s…

Predictive Model Markup Language (PMML) Representation of Bayesian Networks: An Application in Manufacturing

2018

International audience; Bayesian networks (BNs) represent a promising approach for the aggregation of multiple uncertainty sources in manufacturing networks and other engineering systems for the purposes of uncertainty quantification, risk analysis, and quality control. A standardized representation for BN models will aid in their communication and exchange across the web. This article presents an extension to the predictive model markup language (PMML) standard for the representation of a BN, which may consist of discrete variables, continuous variables, or their combination. The PMML standard is based on extensible markup language (XML) and used for the representation of analytical models…

Comparison of KVP and RSI for Controlling KUKA Robots Over ROS

2020

In this work, an open-source ROS interface based on KUKAVARPROXY for control of KUKA robots is compared to the commercial closed-source Robot Sensor Interface available from KUKA. This comparison looks at the difference in how these two approaches communicate with the KUKA robot controller, the response time and tracking delay one can expect with the different interfaces, and the difference in use cases for the two interfaces. The investigations showed that the KR16 with KRC2 has a 50 ms response time, and RSI has a 120 ms tracking delay, with negligible delay caused by the ROS communication stack. The results highlight that the commercial inferface is more reliable for feedback control tas…

Efficient Transport Protocol for Networked Haptics Applications

2008

The performance of haptic application is highly sensitive to communication delays and losses of data. It implies several constraints in developing networked haptic applications. This paper describes a new internet protocol called Efficient Transport Protocol (ETP), which aims at developing distributed interactive applications. TCP and UDP are transport protocols commonly used in any kind of networked communication, but they are not focused on real time application. This new protocol is focused on reducing roundtrip time (RTT) and interpacket gap (IPG). ETP is, therefore, optimized for interactive applications which are based on processes that are continuously exchanging data. ETP protocol i…

A proposed mapping method for aligning machine execution data to numerical control code

2019

The visions of the digital thread and smart manufacturing have boosted the potential of relating downstream data to upstream decisions in design. However, to date, the tools and methods to robustly map across the related data representations is significantly lacking. In response, we propose a mapping technique for standard manufacturing data representations. Specifically, we focus on relating controller data from machining tools in the form of MTConnect, an emerging standard that defines the vocabulary and semantics as well as communications protocols for execution data, and G-Code, the most widely used standard for numerical control (NC) instructions. We evaluate the efficacy of our mappin…
