Synthesis, Structure and Conformation of Partially-Modified Retro- and Retro-Inversoψ[NHCH(CF3)]Gly Peptides

2003

Partially modified retro- (PMR) and retro-inverso (PMRI) psi[NHCH(CF(3))]Gly peptides, a conceptually new class of peptidomimetics, have been synthesized in wide structural diversity and variable length by aza-Michael reaction of enantiomerically pure alpha-amino esters and peptides with enantiomerically and geometrically pure N-4,4,4-trifluorocrotonoyl-oxazolidin-2-ones. The factors underlying the observed moderate to good diastereocontrol have been investigated. The conformations of model PMR-psi[NHCH(CF(3))]Gly tripeptides have been studied in solution by (1)H NMR spectroscopy supported by MD calculations, as well as in the solid-state by X-ray diffraction. Remarkable stability of turn-l…

Determining the Geometry of Hydrogen Bonds in Solids with Picometer Accuracy by Quantum-Chemical Calculations and NMR Spectroscopy

2005

The structure of multiply hydrogen-bonded systems is determined with picometer accuracy by a combined solid-state NMR and quantum-chemical approach. On the experimental side, advanced 1H-15N dipolar recoupling NMR techniques are capable of providing proton-nitrogen distances of up to about 250 pm with an accuracy level of +/-1 pm for short distances (i.e., around 100 pm) and +/-5 pm for longer ones (i.e., 180 to 250 pm). The experiments were performed under fast magic-angle spinning, which ensures sufficient dipolar decoupling and spectral resolution of the 1H resonance lines. On the quantum-chemical side, the structures of the hydrogen-bonded systems were computationally optimised, yieldin…

Simultaneous Freezing of Chirality and In−Out Conformation of a Macropentacyclic Cryptand by Protonation

2004

Compound 1, a cryptand-derived macropentacycle, is a flexible molecule that encompasses many conformations (symmetrical, unsymmetrical, and chiral ones) depending on the observation temperature (VT 1H NMR). Selective monoprotonation of this molecule leads to a totally unsymmetrical, rigidly chiral species in solution (1H NMR). Helical chirality and in-out conformation of monoprotonated 1 are observed in the solid state by X-ray diffraction analysis, as well as the proton location. The latter is bound to the endo bridgehead nitrogen atom and involved in hydrogen-bonding interactions with the three closest sulfurs. Significant induction of chirality is triggered by reaction of 1 with the opti…

Orientational preferences of aromatic guests in dimeric capsules of tetraurea calix[4]arenes—MD and NMR studies

2006

Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations have been performed for complexes of a dimeric capsule of a tetraurea calixarene with a series of twelve aromatic guests. A distinct orientational preference and a restriction of the internal mobility was found which depend on the size and electronic properties of the guests. The results are in agreement with the CIS values obtained from (1)H NMR spectroscopic measurements and with complexation selectivities obtained by competition experiments.

3-(2-Pyridyl)-[1,2,3]triazolo[1,5-a]pyridines. An experimental and theoretical (DFT) study of the ring-chain isomerization

2005

An experimental (1H NMR) and theoretical (DFT) study of the ring-chain-ring isomerization of 3-(2-pyridyl)-[1,2,3]triazolo[1,5-a]pyrid-7-yl derivatives (A) into 6-{[1,2,3]triazolo[1,5-a]pyrid-3-yl}-2-pyridyl derivatives (B) has been carried out. Based on the calculations, a mechanism of several steps will be proposed. The experimental results as well as the calculations lead to the conclusion that the A-B ratio depends on the electronic properties of the substituents. © The Royal Society of Chemistry 2005.

Synthesis and characterization of 4,6-O-butylidene-N-(2-hydroxybenzylidene)-beta-D-glucopyranosylamine: crystal structures of 4,6-O-butylidene-alpha-…

2002

4,6-O-Butylidene-N-(2-hydroxybenzylidene)-β-D-glucopyranosylamine was synthesized and characterized using analytical, spectral and single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods. 1H and 13C NMR studies showed the presence of the β-anomer, which has also been confirmed by the crystal structure. The molecular structure of this compound showed the presence of the tridentate ONO ligation-core. Both precursors, 4,6-O-butylidene-α-D-glucopyranose and 4,6-O-butylidene-β-D-glucopyranosylamine were characterized using single crystal X-ray diffraction. The α-anomeric nature of the former and β-anomeric nature of the latter were proposed based on 1H NMR studies and were confirmed by determining the crystal …

Synthesis and structure of mono-bridged resorcinarene host: a ditopic receptor for ammonium guests.

2009

The synthesis and structural properties of tetramethoxy resorcinarene mono-crown-5 (1) are described. The binding characteristics of 1 toward acetylcholine and tetramethylammonium salts were investigated by 1H NMR titration. It was observed that the cavity of 1 provides a better fit to acetylcholine compared to the smaller tetramethylammonium cation, as acetylcholine is able to interact with both the crown ether moiety and the free hydroxyl groups of receptor 1 simultaneously.

Site-specific Labelling with a Metal Chelator for Protein-structure Refinement

2004

A single free Cys sidechain in the N-terminal domain of the E. coli arginine repressor was covalently derivatized with S-cysteaminyl-EDTA for site-specific attachment of paramagnetic metal ions. The effects of chelated metal ions were monitored with (15)N-HSQC spectra. Complexation of Co(2+), which has a fast relaxing electron spin, resulted in significant pseudocontact shifts, but also in peak doubling which was attributed to the possibility of forming two different stereoisomers of the EDTA-Co(2+) complex. In contrast, complexation of Cu(2+) or Mn(2+), which have slowly relaxing electron spins, did not produce chemical shift changes and yielded self-consistent sets of paramagnetic relaxat…

Isostructural Dinuclear Phenoxo-/Acetato-Bridged Manganese(II), Cobalt(II), and Zinc(II) Complexes with Labile Sites: Kinetics of Transesterification…

2012

Using the dinucleating phenol-based ligand 2,6-bis[3-(pyridin-2-yl)pyrazol-1-ylmethyl]-4-methylphenol] (HL(2)), in its deprotonated form, the six new dinuclear complexes [M(II)(2)(L(2))(μ-O(2)CMe)(2)(MeCN)(2)][PF(6)] (M = Mn (2a), Co (3a), Zn (4a)) and [M(II)(2)(L(2))(μ-O(2)CMe)(2)(MeCN)(2)][BPh(4)] (M = Mn (2b), Co (3b), Zn (4b)) have been synthesized. Crystallographic analyses on 2b·2MeCN, 3b·2MeCN, and 4b·2MeCN reveal that these complexes have closely similar μ-phenoxo bis(μ-carboxylato) structures. The physicochemical properties (absorption and ESI-MS spectral data, 2a,b, 3a,b, and 4a,b; (1)H NMR, 4a,b) of the cations of 2a-4a are identical with those of 2b-4b. Each metal ion is termina…

A Binuclear MnIII Complex of a Scorpiand-Like Ligand Displaying a Single Unsupported MnIII–O–MnIII Bridge

2012

The crystal structure of a binuclear Mn(III) complex of a scorpiand-like ligand (L) displays an unsupported single oxo bridging ligand with a Mn(III)-O-Mn(III) angle of 174.7°. Magnetic susceptibility measurements indicate strong antiferromagnetic coupling between the two metal centers. DFT calculations have been carried out to understand the magnetic behavior and to analyze the nature of the observed Jahn-Teller distortion. Paramagnetic (1)H NMR has been applied to rationalize the formation and magnetic features of the complexes formed in solution.
