Jet mass and substructure of inclusive jets in $ \sqrt {s} = 7\;{\text{TeV}} $ pp collisions with the ATLAS experiment

Recent studies have highlighted the potential of jet substructure techniques to identify the hadronic decays of boosted heavy particles. These studies all rely upon the assumption that the internal substructure of jets generated by QCD radiation is well understood. In this article, this assumption is tested on an inclusive sample of jets recorded with the ATLAS detector in 2010, which corresponds to 35 pb-1 of pp collisions delivered by the LHC at √s = 7TeV. In a subsample of events with single pp collisions, measurements corrected for detector efficiency and resolution are presented with full systematic uncertainties. From isolated 1H-pyrazole cryptand anion receptors to hybrid inorganic-organic 1D helical polymeric anion receptors

We report a novel 1-D helical coordination polymer formed by protonated polyamine 1H-pyrazole cryptands interconnected by Cu2+ metal ions that are able to encapsulate anionic species behaving as a multianion receptor. Switching from a monomeric receptor to a polymeric receptor is activated by metal ions and pH.
Multi-strange baryon production at mid-rapidity in Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN)=2.76 TeV

The production of − and − baryons and their anti-particles in Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV has been measured using the ALICE detector. The transverse momentum spectra at mid-rapidity (|y| < 0.5) for charged and hyperons have been studied in the range 0.6 < pT < 8.0 GeV/c and 1.2 < pT < 7.0 GeV/c, respectively, and in several centrality intervals (from the most central 0–10% to the most peripheral 60–80% collisions). These spectra have been compared with the predictions of recent hydrodynamic models. The design of innovative proton conductors for intermediate-temperature fuel cells, closing the gap between PEMFC and SOFC, is a forefront research theme in materials chemistry. [1] Layered perovskites with the Dion-Jacobson structure (ALaNb2O7) have bidimensional lanthanum niobate sheets, separated by a layer of A+ cations. These can be substituted by a variety of molecules with soft chemistry, to yield inorganic-organic hybrids. LFER and the Effect of Temperature on Oxyanion Adsorption by Goethite

A linear relationship between the Gibbs free energy, ΔGr,H+, of the aqueous complex deprotonation reaction, and the Gibbs free energy, ΔGr,ads, of bidentate surface complexation reaction of oxyanions was derived from modelling of temperature dependent batch equilibrium adsorption experiments. As exemplified in this study, this relationship may be exploited to predict temperature-dependent adsorption behavior of oxyanions not yet known such as pertechnetate.
From Overstoichiometric to Substoichiometric Enantioselective Protonation with 2-Sulfinyl Alcohols: A View in Perspective

A general study of the enantioselective protonation of prochiral enolates with 2-sulfinyl alcohols is reported. The modification of reaction conditions to reduce drastically the amount of chiral proton source needed to obtain a good enantiomeric excess is reported. The effects of the different factors controlling the stereoselectivity are clearly established. Different protocols for enolate generation are compared.

Background: Helicobacter pylori eradication requires a combination of antibiotics. The short and long-term effect of different H. pylori eradication regimens on the gut microbiota has received little attention. Aims: To evaluate and compare the impact of the two most frequently recommended first-line H. pylori eradication regimens — bismuth and non-bismuth quadruple regimens — on the gut microbiota. The confinement of D and L dimethyl tartrate in lecithin reverse micelles dispersed in cyclohexane has been investigated by FT-IR, polarimetry, electronic and vibrational circular dichroism (ECD and VCD), 1H NMR, and small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS). Measurements have been performed at room temperature as a function of the solubilizate-to-surfactant molar ratio (R) at fixed lecithin concentration. The analysis of experimental data indicates that the dimethyl tartrate molecules are solubilized within reverse micelles in proximity to the surfactant head groups in the same way for the D and L forms.
