Thermodynamics and fluorescence emission studies on potential molecular chemosensors for ATP recognition in aqueous solution †
1999
The interaction of the open-chain polyamine N-(3-aminopropyl)-N′-[3-(anthrylmethyl)aminopropyl]ethane-1,2-diamine (L) with the relevant anionic forms of adenosine 5′-triphosphate (ATP), adenosine 5′-diphosphate (ADP) and adenosine 5′-monophosphate (AMP) is described. Unambiguous criteria for defining thermodynamic selectivity based on the use of effective stability constants are presented. The interaction of L and several other topologically similar polyammonium receptors with ATP has been shown to occur through electrostatic and π-stacking intermolecular forces. The π-stacking binding mode is modulated by the protonation degree of ATP as indicated by fluorescence emission titrations. Evide…

2011
Thebindingcapacityof fiveaminopolycarboxylicligands(APCs)(nitrilotriacetate(NTA),ethylenediamine-N,N,N 0 , N 0 -tetraacetate (EDTA), (S,S)-ethylenediamine-N,N 0 -disuccinic acid (S,S-EDDS), diethylenetriamine-N,N,N 0 ,N 00 ,N 00 -pentaacetate (DTPA), and triethylenetetraamine-N,N,N 0 ,N 00 ,N 000 ,N 000 -hexaacetate (TTHA)) toward the palladium(II) ion was studied by potentiometric titrations (ISE-H + electrode) in NaNO3 and in NaClO4/NaI (at different molar ratios) solutions and by spectrophotometric titrations (only in NaClO4), at I = 0.1 mol 3 kg 1 and at T = 298.15 K. The high stability of Pd 2+ -complexones species inhibits the formation of sparingly soluble hydroxo species until pH …
Electrochemistry of copper complexes with macrocyclic polyamines containing pyrazole units.
2006
The voltammetric behaviour of bi- and mono-nuclear complexes formed in solution by Cu(2+) with three polyazacyclophanes containing pyrazole units in aqueous solution is described. Cyclic and square wave voltammetric responses at glassy carbon electrodes indicate that the reduction of copper-macrocycle complexes in solution takes place in two successive one-electron per Cu transfer processes coupled with preorganization and protonation reactions that mimic the behaviour of superoxide dismutase. The electrochemistry of ternary Cu(2+)-receptor-dopamine complexes exhibits significant differences with respect to the protection of the neurotransmitter from post-electron transfer cyclization react…
Polyacrylates in aqueous solution. The dependence of protonation on molecular weight, ionic medium and ionic strength
2003
Abstract The protonation constants of polyacrylates with different molecular weights ( W =2000–750 000 Da) were determined in different ionic media (alkali metal chlorides and nitrates, tetraalkylammonium chlorides), at 25 °C, by potentiometric measurements (H + –glass electrode). Literature data were also considered. Different models used to analyse protonation data were compared: the first was the modified Henderson–Hasselbalch two-parameter equation, and the second was the three-parameter equation proposed by Hogfeldt. The dependence on the ionic strength of the different supporting electrolytes and all the protonation parameters involved in the two models showed the trend Et 4 N + ≫Li +…
Speciation of low molecular weight ligands in natural fluids: protonation constants and association of open chain polyamines with the major component…
2000
Abstract The interaction of five open chain polyamines (ethylenediamine (en), diethylenetriamine (dien), trietylenetetramine (trien), tetraethylenepentamine (tetren), spermine (sper)) with the major components of seawater was studied potentiometrically at 25°C, in an artificial seawater (containing Na+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Cl− and SO42−) at different salinities (5–45‰). Potentiometric data were interpreted in terms of both the apparent protonation constants of polyamines and the formation constants of complexes formed by unprotonated or protonated amines and the cation and the anion of seawater (the inorganic content of seawater being considered as a single 1:1 salt). Some empirical relationshi…
Proton coordination by polyamine compounds in aqueous solution
1999
Abstract The present article is concerned with proton transfer reactions in aqueous solution of open-chain, macrocyclic and macropolycyclic or cage compounds having nitrogen atoms as protonation sites in the molecular framework, although several compounds with additional different donors will be considered. The main purpose of this review is to collect some significant examples of proton transfer processes in order to show how the electronic properties and molecular topology of polyamines affect the thermodynamic parameters of their protonation equilibria.
VIOLURATO COMPLEXES OF Cr(III). SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION. PROTONATION-DEPROTONATION EQUILIBRIA OF THE COORDINATED LIGANDS. EVIDENCE OF THE COOR…
1982
Abstract The formation of violurato complexes of Cr(III) has been studied in aqueous solution. Two compounds, [Cr(H2V)3].5H2O and Na[Cr(H2V)2(OH)2].4H2O have been synthesized and characterized. [Cr(H2V)3] behaves in aqueous solution as a triprotic acid but it can also add a proton yielding [Cr(H2V)2(H3V)]+. The acidity constants of this species have been determined: pKa1 =3.32, pKa2 =4.25, pKa3 =4.83 and pKa4 =6.99 (25°C, 0.1 M NaC1O4). [Cr(H2V)2(OH)2]− undergoes a deprotonation of the two H2V− ligands and a protonation of the hydroxo ligands. The acidity constants of [Cr(H2V)2(H2O)2]+ have been also determined: pKa1 =3.5, pKa2 =4.6, pKa3 =7.1 and pKa4 =9.2 (25°C, 0.1 M NaC1O4). The coordin…
Protonation of Carbonate in Aqueous Tetraalkylammonium Salts at 25°C.
2006
Protonation constants of carbonate were determined in tetramethylammonium chloride (Me4NClaq 0.1≤I/mol kg−1 ≤4) and tetraethylammonium iodide (Et4NIaq 0.1≤I/mol kg−1 ≤1) by potentiometric ([H+]-glass electrode) measurements. Dependence of protonation constants on ionic strength was taken into account by modified specific ion interaction theory (SIT) and by Pitzer models. Literature data on the protonation of carbonate in NaClaq (0.1≤I/mol kg−1 ≤6) were also critically analysed. Both protonation constants of carbonate follow the trend Et4NI>Me4NCl > NaCl. An ion pair formation model designed to take into account the different protonation behaviours of carbonate in different supporting electr…
A DFT Study of the Conversion of Ptaquiloside, a Bracken Fern Carcinogen, to Pterosin B in Neutral and Acidic Aqueous Medium
2017
The conversion of ptaquiloside (PtQ), a bracken fern (Pteridium aquilinum) carcinogen, to pterosin B (PtB), which is involved in the underlying mechanisms of PtQ genotoxicity and carcinogenicity, has been theoretically studied in aqueous neutral (AN) and acid (AA) media, using DFT methods at the PCM(water)-B3LYP/6-31G(d)//B3LYP/6-31G(d) computational level. The β-elimination of glucose in AN and four reactive channels (A-D) defined by as many protonation sites in PtQ were calculated. Activation enthalpy decreases (from 42.0 to 12.6 kcal mol−1) in AA relative to AN suggesting protic catalysis. The most favoured channel A started with protonation of the tertiary O15 hydroxyl of PtQ and SN1 wa…
Coordination properties of some nickel(II) monophosphono dipeptides species in aqueous solution: The role of phosphonic oxygen in complex stabilizati…
2008
Abstract Equilibrium studies on the nickel(II) complexes of oxygen and nitrogen donor ligand (monophosphono dipeptides: 1- (N- l -leucylamino)methylphosphonic acid – Leu-Gly(P), and a thioether sulfur donor ligands (monophosphono dipeptides: 1-N-(glycyloamino)-2-(S-benzylthio)ethanephosphonic acid – Gly-(Bz)Cys(P), d (−) and Gly-(Bz)Cys(P), d (+) were performed by potentiometric titration and NIR–Vis spectroscopy. Additionally, the ligand-field parameters (CFM/AOM) were estimated and discussed in the tetragonal distortion framework. The lowest tetragonal distortion was observed in the case of the [NiHL] species, whereas the strongest in the case of [NiL2] species. In the latter species the …
