Evaluation of the practicality of optical biometry and applanation ultrasound in 253 eyes
2003
Abstract Purpose To evaluate the percentage of eyes that could not be measured using optical biometry and ultrasound applanation and the reasons. Setting Department of Ophthalmology, Johannes Gutenberg-University Hospital, Mainz, Germany. Methods Optical biometry (IOLMaster®, Carl Zeiss Meditec AG) and A-scan ultrasound biometry were performed consecutively in 253 eyes scheduled for cataract surgery the next day. Lens opacities were evaluated with the Opacity Lensmeter (Interzeag), and a slitlamp examination and measurement of visual acuity were performed. The 2 techniques were compared in terms of the rate of and reasons for primary measurement failure. Results Measurement with the IOLMast…
Visual performance of the Akreos Adapt AO intraocular lens in patients with different corneal profiles measured with an adaptive optics visual simula…
2012
AIMS: To evaluate the visual performance of an aberration-free intraocular lens (IOL) in patients with different corneal profiles using adaptive optics visual simulation. METHODS: A crx1 adaptive optics visual simulator was used to simulate the aberration pattern of an aberration-free IOL combined with five corneal profiles: virgin corneas and corneas with low and high myopic ablations and low and high hyperopic ablations. Ten eyes of 10 subjects were evaluated, and monocular distance visual acuity (VA) at 100%, 50% and 10% of contrast was measured. RESULTS: At 100% of contrast, no differences were found in VA values among virgin corneas, low and high myopic ablations and low hyperopic abla…
Visual simulation through different intraocular lenses using adaptive optics: Effect of tilt and decentration
2011
Purpose To analyze visual quality differences between intraocular lenses (IOLs) and assess the impact of IOL decentration and tilt on visual quality. Setting University of Valencia, Valencia, Spain. Design Cohort study. Methods The crx1 adaptive optics visual simulator was used to simulate the wavefront aberration pattern of 2 commercially available aspheric aberration-correcting IOLs (Acrysof IQ SN60WF and Tecnis ZA9003) and 2 spherical IOLs (Akreos Adapt and Triplato) in 5 situations: centered, decentered 0.2 mm and 0.4 mm, and tilted 2 degrees and 4 degrees. Monocular distance visual acuity at 100%, 50%, and 10% contrast and the depth of focus were measured. Results Ten eyes of 10 patien…
Depth of focus through different intraocular lenses in patients with different corneal profiles using adaptive optics visual simulation
2011
PURPOSE: To evaluate the depth of focus with monofocal intraocular lenses (IOLs) in patients with different corneal profiles using adaptive optics (AO) visual simulation. METHODS: An AO visual simulator (crx1, Imagine Eyes) was used to simulate the aberration pattern of three monofocal IOLs (Acrysof IQ SN60WF [Alcon Laboratories Inc]; Akreos Adapt AO [Bausch & Lomb]; and Triplato [AJL Ophthalmic]) of different optic designs. Five groups were considered: patients without any corneal refractive surgery (normal cornea group) and with prior low and high myopic and hyperopic ablations (low myopic ablation, high myopic ablation, low hyperopic ablation, and high hyperopic ablation groups). De…
Quality of vision with the Acri. Twin asymmetric diffractive bifocal intraocular lens system.
2007
To assess the quality of vision in patients who had implantation of asymmetric Acri. Twin bifocal diffractive intraocular lenses (IOLs) by evaluating distance and near visual acuities and photopic and mesopic contrast sensitivity under monocular and binocular conditions.Fernández-Vega Ophthalmological Institute, Oviedo, Spain. The study comprised 343 consecutive patients who had bilateral implantation of the Acri. Twin system: a distance-weighted 737D IOL and a near-weighted 733D IOL. Monocular and binocular best corrected distance visual acuities, best distance corrected near visual acuity, and distance contrast sensitivity under photopic (85 cd/m(2)) and mesopic (5 cd/m(2)) conditions were…
Visual function after implantation of a diffractive aspheric trifocal intraocular lens
2016
Purpose To evaluate distance, intermediate, and near vision after bilateral implantation of a diffractive aspheric trifocal intraocular lens (IOL). Methods This study enrolled 204 eyes of 102 patients who had bilateral implantation of the AT LISA tri 839MP IOL. Monocular and binocular uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) and corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) (4 meters), monocular and binocular uncorrected near visual acuity (UNVA) and distance-corrected near visual acuity (DCNVA) (30, 40 centimeters), binocular uncorrected intermediate visual acuity (UIVA) and distance-corrected intermediate visual acuity (DCIVA) (50, 60, 70 centimeters), the defocus curve, and binocular photopic…
Optical quality in eyes with aspheric intraocular lenses and in younger and older adult phakic eyes: comparative study.
2009
To compare ocular higher-order aberrations (HOAs) in eyes with aspheric intraocular lenses (IOL) and in phakic eyes.Department of Ophthalmology, Military Health Service Institute, Warsaw, Poland.Higher-order aberrations with a 5.0 mm pupil and best spectacle-corrected visual acuity (BSCVA) were analyzed in a young phakic group (age 20 to 40 years), older phakic group (age 40 to 60 years), and a pseudophakic group (age 62 to 84 years; SN60WF aspheric IOL).The mean coma was 0.13 microm+/-0.07 (SD) in the younger phakic group, 0.18+/-0.08 microm in the older phakic group, and 0.16+/-0.08 microm in the pseudophakic group; the difference between the 2 phakic groups was statistically significant …
