Limits on spin-dependent WIMP-nucleon cross sections from 225 live days of XENON100 data

2013

We present new experimental constraints on the elastic, spin-dependent WIMP-nucleon cross section using recent data from the XENON100 experiment, operated in the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso in Italy. An analysis of 224.6 live days x 34 kg of exposure acquired during 2011 and 2012 revealed no excess signal due to axial-vector WIMP interactions with 129-Xe and 131-Xe nuclei. This leads to the most stringent upper limits on WIMP-neutron cross sections for WIMP masses above 6 GeV, with a minimum cross section of 3.5 x 10^{-40} cm^2 at a WIMP mass of 45 GeV, at 90% confidence level.

N-quantum approach to quantum field theory at finite T and mu: the NJL model

1999

We extend the N-quantum approach to quantum field theory to finite temperature ($T$) and chemical potential ($\mu$) and apply it to the NJL model. In this approach the Heisenberg fields are expressed using the Haag expansion while temperature and chemical potential are introduced simultaneously through a generalized Bogoliubov transformation. Known mean field results are recovered using only the first term in the Haag expansion. In addition, we find that at finite T and in the broken symmetry phase of the model the mean field approximation can not diagonalize the Hamiltonian. Inclusion of scalar and axial vector diquark channels in the SU(2)$_{rm f}$ $otimes$ SU(3)$_{\rm c}$ version of the …

Parity-violating interactions of cosmic fields with atoms, molecules, and nuclei: Concepts and calculations for laboratory searches and extracting li…

2014

We propose methods and present calculations that can be used to search for evidence of cosmic fields by investigating the parity-violating effects, including parity nonconservation amplitudes and electric dipole moments, that they induce in atoms. The results are used to constrain important fundamental parameters describing the strength of the interaction of various cosmic fields with electrons, protons, and neutrons. Candidates for such fields are dark matter (including axions) and dark energy, as well as several more exotic sources described by standard-model extensions. Existing parity nonconservation experiments in Cs, Dy, Yb, and Tl are combined with our calculations to directly place …

Threshold pion photoproduction in a light-cone quark model

1991

Abstract The instantaneous and seagull graphs are calculated for pion photoproduction in a relativistic light-cone model of the nucleon. In both pseudoscalar and pseudovector coupling we find the ratios A (−) : A (0) : A (+) = 1: ( −1 2 μ):( −9 5 μ) in the nonrelativistic limit. These results correspond to the sum of seagull and Z -graph in the nonrelativistic quark model. In pseudovector coupling also the numerical results for realistic-model parameters are close to those values.

Photoproduction of delta and Roper resonances in the cloudy bag model.

1988

The photoproduction of delta and Roper resonances has been calculated within the framework of the cloudy bag model. Two alternative formulations, the original pseudoscalar surface coupling and the pseudovector volume coupling of pions, have been used, and the results are compared. The helicity amplitudes are in fair agreement with experimental data, the prediction for the small ${E}_{1+}$/${M}_{1+}$ ratio for delta production is -1.8% for a bag radius of 1 fm and pseudovector coupling.

Search for Electronic Recoil Event Rate Modulation with 4 Years of XENON100 Data

2017

We report on a search for electronic recoil event rate modulation signatures in the XENON100 data accumulated over a period of 4 years, from January 2010 to January 2014. A profile likelihood method, which incorporates the stability of the XENON100 detector and the known electronic recoil background model, is used to quantify the significance of periodicity in the time distribution of events. There is a weak modulation signature at a period of $431^{+16}_{-14}$ days in the low energy region of $(2.0-5.8)$ keV in the single scatter event sample, with a global significance of $1.9\,\sigma$, however no other more significant modulation is observed. The expected annual modulation of a dark matt…

τ decay into a pseudoscalar and an axial-vector meson

2019

We study theoretically the decay $\tau^- \to \nu_\tau P^- A$, with $P^-$ a $\pi^-$ or $K^-$ and $A$ an axial-vector resonance $b_1(1235)$, $h_1(1170)$, $h_1(1380)$, $a_1(1260)$, $f_1(1285)$ or any of the two poles of the $K_1(1270)$. The process proceeds through a triangle mechanism where a vector meson pair is first produced from the weak current and then one of the vectors produces two pseudoscalars, one of which reinteracts with the other vector to produce the axial resonance. For the initial weak hadronic production we use a recent formalism to account for the hadronization after the initial quark-antiquark pair produced from the weak current, which explicitly filters G-parity states an…

Limiting P-odd interactions of cosmic fields with electrons, protons and neutrons

2014

We propose methods for extracting limits on the strength of P-odd interactions of pseudoscalar and pseudovector cosmic fields with electrons, protons and neutrons. Candidates for such fields are dark matter (including axions) and dark energy, as well as several more exotic sources described by standard-model extensions. Calculations of parity nonconserving amplitudes and atomic electric dipole moments induced by these fields are performed for H, Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, Ba+, Tl, Dy, Fr, and Ra+. From these calculations and existing measurements in Dy, Cs and Tl, we constrain the interaction strengths of the parity-violating static pseudovector cosmic field to be 7*10^(-15) GeV with an electron, a…

Electron spectra in forbidden β decays and the quenching of the weak axial-vector coupling constant gA

2017

Evolution of the electron spectra with the effective value of the weak axial-vector coupling constant ${g}_{\mathrm{A}}$ was followed for 26 first-, second-, third-, fourth- and fifth-forbidden ${\ensuremath{\beta}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ decays of odd-$A$ nuclei by calculating the involved nuclear matrix elements (NMEs) in the framework of the microscopic quasiparticle-phonon model (MQPM). The next-to-leading-order terms were included in the $\ensuremath{\beta}$-decay shape factor of the electron spectra. The spectrum shapes of third- and fourth-forbidden nonunique decays were found to depend strongly on the value of ${g}_{\mathrm{A}}$, while first- and second-forbidden decays were mostly unaff…
